Great views of the Hudson and a seemingly extensive fish menu, however I went with the Filet which was very good. Colleagues seemed to enjoy the oysters too. Good service and a very pleasure visit.

I have been to Captain Jake’s many times, pre covid, including one time with a large group (10) and it has always been enjoyable. Tonight was a far different experience. We were seated at a corner round table inside and two other small tables were seated inside, no others. (Outside was almost full) I was one of 8, that upon our waitress coming to our table, one of us, jokingly said, “here’s your problem table for the night” referring to the fact that we can be loud and laugh a lot. So we began, ordering drinks and several appetizers and soups, including a pizza to share as an appetizer. We received our drinks (they were lovely) and then the appetizers came out, missing the pizza, and two wrong soups. Still missing the pizza ten minutes later, we asked the waitress where it was, she went to check, and apologized and said 10 minutes. Ok! Meanwhile we drank our drinks, ate the appetizers, and then we sat, empty beverage glasses, empty appetizer plates, empty water glasses, and we asked three more times. Finally someone brought out the pizza (30-40 minutes later). And we finally got our second drink along with our dinner (food was very good) at about the same time. Meanwhile, our waitress was standing with others, never coming back to check on us once, without us calling someone, anyone, over. Still, really not complaining, we ordered desserts to share and one cup of coffee that arrived full of coffee grinds (yes the waitress offered to get a new one that was declined) along with the desserts. Fast forward the bill arrives, they took the coffee and the one dessert off the bill. Not the pizza! The waitress was called over and was told that this was unacceptable, and a manager requested. Lo and behold, the most defensive woman comes over with a plethora of excuses, short staffed, one bartender with hurt finger or wrist, one busboy , blah, blah, blah, and then she says “when you come in, saying you are going to be the problem table, that doesn’t sit well with me!”, and throws it back on us. Turns out she is the owner, great customer service right there! Check arrives back, with pizza now off, including a 20% tip (party over 6) that can not be adjusted. This was not about the cost as we go out frequently and cost is never an issue (have never asked for an adjustment in cost anywhere before). It is about the attitude and disdain with how we were talked to by the owner. Snide remark made by bartender on our way out. Owner and staff talking about us. Very professional. There are so few places down at the waterfront right now, that it is disappointing that we will not be returning to Captain Jake’s and we will be taking our money (over $700) elsewhere. Truly a shame and totally unacceptable to treat your customers this way.

We went to dinner here- an early dinner- at 4pm. Everything started out great- the waitress was kind and our first round of drinks came quickly. Unfortunately, what followed was not so great. We ordered appetizers and some came out- some did not. When we asked- they went to check- then we asked again- and it finally came out. We also had to request a second round of drinks and refills on our water three times to three separate staff members. The one appetizer- that took longer- finally came out and dinner came out quickly behind. We then ordered dessert- which came out in a timely manner but the coffee had grinds in it (so much our friend had to pick them out). Our waitress did offer to make a new pot- my friend chose to just finish it. Our bill came out- they did compensate us for the coffee and one dessert- but nothing for the appetizer that took a good half hour longer than the others. When we questioned and asked to speak to the manager- the manager came out with excuses paired with an aggressive demeanor. They did compensate for the pizza- whatever- the compensation wasn’t the big deal- but it was how she spoke to us. After she left, with snide comments, she made it a point (“she” being the manager) to come back to our table to say “and when you come in saying you’re going to be the ‘trouble table’ that doesn’t sit well with me”… again- with an enormous attitude! Now- this comment was made- which I’m sure others have made- as a JOKE to the waitress upon entering as we are a large group of friends out to dinner together. Honestly- to reiterate- it was not about compensating for the food- it was the fact that a manager/owner spoke to (well)-paying customers with such disdain. It’s a shame- I love the food and atmosphere of these restaurant- but after being spoke to by a so-called “leader” like this- we will not be returning to spend another $700. Truly a shame. PS- it truly was NOT the waitress and the manager’s excuses included: the waitress being short-staffed (there were no other tables inside at this point), the bartender slammed her finger, she had only one busboy, etc. Additionally- when we walked out- the bartender made snide comments upon us leaving. The manager/owner continuously spoke to her staff about us- as we could overhear in the small restaurant. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable.

To start, we were greeted by a warm hostess & seated w/a fantastic view of the Hudson River on a lovely sunny day---Then we met our blond waitress who didn't seem to know what a smile was. When I ordered the Sole Francaise, I pronounced it correctly "Fran-says", & the waitress (thinking wrongly she is correcting me) says, "It's pronounced Fran CHays". I responded, "No, it's pronounced, Fran-Says". She rolls her eyes & wrongly says again, "It's pronounced Fran CHAYS!" At this point she should've realized that even if a customer is pronouncing something wrong, which I wasn't, it isn't good manners, or getting one a good tip, if you start out minus a smile & trying to "One-Up" a customer by trying to insult their intelligence. SIGH. Throughout the meal it didn't get much better from her (Forgetting things, ignoring requests, more eye rolling, etc.). But I know this isn't a reflection of all the staff since I have eaten there before & had marvelous service by hostesses, bar staff, busgirls, etc. In any case, I did indeed order the Sole Francaise & it was some of the freshest I've ever had. Our table also had generous portions of Lobster Bisque, Perfect Oysters Rockefeller, & several varieties of sandwiches/rolls-ALL wonderful. This would have been "A Perfect 10" experience if only for that waitress (They do need some improvement in educating the staff on how to pronounce the menu & how to avoid insulting customers if this waitress continues to work here), but since I know I will MAKE SURE NOT TO get her again, I will be back for everything else that this restaurant has to offer.

Never a bad experience here. Staff and owner are super friendly. Highly recommend coming here.

awesome food, excellent staff

the food was so amazing and so was the service! highly recommend!! our waitress Haley was so friendly and knowledgeable! we will definitely be coming back!!

Excellent fresh seafood. Wings are to die for. Fish tacos are amazing. Excellent customer service. Served in a timely manner. Only gripe was my surf and turf steak was a little overcooked. But overall an excellent experience and highly recommended.

This was our Valentine's Day dinner. Everything went well, great company, excellent food and service. It’s not a huge menu; but there is enough variety to find something. For those who care there are 2 washrooms that are gender neutral. I don't know why any negative reviews; this is our second visit and we're very particular about our seafood. NO COMPLAINTS here. For a starter we had a clams oregenata; an actual clam in a delicious sauce. Perfectly cooked and executed. I tried the sole francaise with a potato croquet and broccoli. Both the sole and potato were amazing. Hot, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. I'm not a broccoli fan, so I can't comment on the vegetable. Although the size of the fillet was closer to the size of a flounder fillet. It was still toothsome morsel. I've caught and cleaned enough of both, but nevertheless it wasn't over cooked. She had the seared sea scallops. Not even a Michelin star celebrity chef would have a complaint with the way they were prepared. The portions are just enough and the flavors complimentary. The margarita wasn't boozy, too sweet, or unbalanced. It was a sipping drink that went down smoothly. She thoroughly enjoyed her Bloody Mary. It too, was just right. The espresso had actual schiuma! You need a machine for that. I just can't believe this restaurant isn't on coast; where really fresh seafood is always available and the patrons are used to exceptional seafood prepared and served to perfection. That's why the five star rating; if I could give an extra star I would.
