My friend and I meet after work for drinks and dinner. We enjoyed two rounds of margaritas and mojitos. We each had the French Onion Soup. My friend had the Cobb salad and I enjoyed the smoked brisket tacos. I had them without the cream sauce. Delicious. Our waitress was a little spacey and had a problem getting our order correct. I had to send my tacos back, came with the cream, Our water glasses had to be sent back - stuff floating - and my friend ordered something to take home and never got it. Would I go there again? Despite the issues, yes I would. The food was food with reasonable prices.
I love the retreat for the quiche and for the wonderful head waitress, not necessarily in that order. Case in point: my best friend and I arrived for lunch yesterday. Rather than accept an available table, we waited 5 to 10 minutes in order to be at the station of the head waitress. We had our usual delightful experience with the food and with her excellent attention.
The Retreat has indoor and outdoor bars and dining areas. We chose outdoor dining because covid was still surging in upstate New York. Dinners come with a choice of salad or soup. The salad, with thousand Island dressing, was excellent after removing the tasteless, lye-cured black olive slices. The seafood chowder was also excellent getting our meals off to a good start. I ordered sauerbraten because I had read in a review that the restaurant was known for this classic German dish. The dinner with sides was so large that it had to be served on two separate dinner plates. The sauerbraten and egg noodles with gravy on one, and the red cabbage, applesauce, 2 potato pancakes, and a side of sour cream on the second. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the sauerbraten I had had on a number of occasions at Danzers German Restaurant on Ainsley Drive. The meat was not cooked long and slow to tenderize it and the sweet/sour sauce was too sweet with too little contrasting red wine vinegar. On the other hand, the potato pancakes and red cabbage were excellent, and the noodles were briefly fried to make them crispy on the edges. A very nice touch. My wife had much better luck with the turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, squash and gravy. (also served on two plates), with enough leftovers for a full second meal at home.
First off, the food was excellent!!! But, the service left something to be desired. From the time we were seated, 20 minutes to get our drink order. From time order taken to delivery, another 20 minutes. 40 minutes later, dinner order was finally taken. Food arrived within 10 minutes of our order but no one ever came back to see how things were or if we wanted anything else until we were done and looking for our checks. Food again was hot and tasty. If you are in any sort of time crunch, I wouldn’t recommend it. If your have lots of time, the food is worth the wait.
No meat on rubin. for the price you'd think there would be some meat. waiter didn't care. won't be going back.
I mean where do I startWe got seated and waited for like 20 min to get our nice waitress the order she was nice I give her that …. But then wait again for another 15 to 20 min for the food …Appetizer was oily and let’s get to my dinnerI mean this is the worst chicken parm I have had in my whole entire life … no constancy. I mean I wouldn’t suggest anyone going there …. The one star for the waitress because she was working hard but please do yourself a favor and run as fas r as you can
Great place food was amazing, service was excellent, atmosphere was cozy, warm, and fun Highly recommend
Almost 5 stars - but also to be fully fair, just can't. *(5-stars is reserved for well... 5 stars - lol). Service though, I gotta say - definitely 5-stars!! Open-faced Steak was about as good as a stand-alone entre steak you'd expect from any steak-SPECIALTY establishment. Draft Beers nice & cold & re-filled FRESH without gap/delays or waiting. My only .02 (and more "advice" really, than any sort of "gripe")... ask for a side of "au-jus" with the open-face steak, just to juicy/flavor it up just that tad it needed, which if on its own it had... would have made this review a "FULL 5" otherwise. Wish there were a way to add the 1/2 star - cuz definitely deserving a legit 4.5. Definitely spot-on worth the visit, and WILL BE BACK!!
My daughter and I were in Syracuse for the weekend. The “Retreat” was recommended by the hotel clerk. GREAT food, GREAT service and GREAT atmosphere. My daughter had prime rib and I had a steak which were cooked as requested, The server was prompt, courteous and and attentive. We would highly RECOMMEND THE RETREAT RESTAURANT ! ! ! ! ! ! ? ? ? ? ? ?
Delicious food. My steak was cooked to perfection. Not enough seasoning. But they have salt and pepper on the tables. Our waitress was tammie who was wonderful. Very fun and joyous. Would recommend.
