It was our first time there. We went for fun cocktails which were delicious. We didn't know it was trivia night so we played. We didn't know squat but still got points for creative answers. The bartender was super friendly and gave me waffles for winning the board game we were playing. It was so fun. We will definitely go back!
I was trying to find a sober-friendly social environment and stumbled on Modern Alchemy during my search. My expectations were exceeded at every level. The owner, staff, and clientel were all warm, welcoming, and extremely helpful, guiding me to their discord, and telling me about new events with writing groups, video game tournaments, sci fi groups, and casual Magic days. (There was more, but these were what caught my interest). I said that I hadn't played (Magic) since the 90's, and one of the folks hanging out offered to go grab a starter deck and play a few hands! I didn't try their food, but what I saw come out of the kitchen smelled and looked great. The mocktails I tried were outstanding, refreshing, yet complex, and made for sipping over time. The mint lemonade was an instant favorite. They had a great selection of games, and the owner encouraged me to bring any of my favorites to try, and potentially add to the library. The decor was warm, and quirky, and cool. Look out for the Rancor! In this crazy world, I think we need more places like this, bringing people together. I will be making Modern Alchemy my weekly escape from the agony of the mundane. It's the most refreshing social environment I've experienced in a very long time. Alcoholic refreshments were available, and I may have to try virgin versions of some that caught my eye. Check this place out. Seriously.
Great food and atmosphere! The Rodeo Bird Panini had excellent flavor and the mixed drinks were top notch. Grapefruit Gygax drink in particular had a neat, tart, and clean taste that I'll definitely be coming back for when I visit Ithaca again. We played a game of Patchwork after our meal and found the wait staff to be chill, friendly, kind, and knowledgeable about the game too (they even helped us understand the rules)! The artwork and overall aesthetic complemented the theme of the bar quite nicely.
Had fun hanging out here for a cozy round of Patchwork! Place has a nice game selection, tasty drinks and paninis (Sriracha Boi was surprising and delicious!), and awesome people & ambiance. They also seem to have regular events, plus a space in the back you can rent for private events.
Awesome bar! Great games, good beer selection, good cocktails and delicious food. Definitely recommend! There is a great selection of games, from the simple to obscure—so fun!
Modern Alchemy is a great little game bar! They have super tasty cocktails, and tons of great games. They've got two nice video game stations too, drunk Mario Kart is where it's at! The owner is super friendly, the bartenders are nice, and the whole place has a safe and welcoming environment. Definitely check it out, bring some friends, and play some games.
Ideal space for meeting up with friends. Excellent selection of games, fantastic service, great food & drinks. I prefer draft drinks and there is always a good option here, which is hard to manage with a small number of taps.
Great place to host our company holiday party! Games for the kids and grown-ups, great service and good food. The staff were awesome at accommodating our group with multiple dietary restrictions and were a pleasure to work with!
The best place in Ithaca to hang out play some games and maybe have a bite to eat.Lots of amazing Mocktail options for those who like myself don’t consume alcohol but still like to hang.Nick and crew are some of the best, I have a wonderful time anytime I’m here.
My friend was treated terribly by the bartender/server after waiting about 2 hours for her panini to come out. They were so rude and disrespectful and did not offer any apology, empathy, nor solution whatsoever. When my friend said she would leave a review after the bartender/server said a multitude of inappropriate things to her about this situation, the worker said “that’s fine, no one reads those things anyways.” I hope someone from the establishment reads this and other potential customers do as well so they know what to expect at this place. I also hope this person has a change of heart because they are going to keep losing business if they continue to treat customers this way.
