The service was OK, but not great. Some attention to detail could improve it. For example, our server was prompt in giving us water after we sat down but put down our glasses abruptly on our table with a loud clank. In another example, there was a long lull between our main and the dessert (~20 minutes). The food was decent but had some flaws. The griddled buns had a really tasty sauce, but the skin on the buns was too thick. The lu rou fan was good but it could use some more sauce as it lacked cohesiveness. The tián miàntuán had sesame seed ice cream that was quite tasty but the fritter part was soggy and wasn't very crispy. The vibe here was hip and vibrant. Definitely an interesting find that aims to push the Taiwanese cuisine. With better service and tweaks to its dishes, this could turn into a real gem.
we had a fantastic dinner here, it’s great for small groups (2-4 people) but they have a larger table for 6 too. definitely do it family style so you can try some things! we got the eggplant, pork over rice, and sesame noodles. our favorite was the pork over rice— the pickled veggies cut the flavor perfectly and the egg was cooked to perfection. I’d say the pork over rice is a must order! it definitely felt like a heavier / hearty meal so be prepared for that. they were also very accommodating for a severe peanut allergy, which is super important for my dining experience. can’t wait to come back to try more!
Drinks are okay, food is great. Try egg bomb and beef roll are must trie. 4 stars as proposing 30% in the check is a bit disrespectful.
Outstanding and creative! Leaves you wanting more!
It's not a typical Taiwanese food joint, have an open mind and prepared to experience food with a twist on their small menu.
Live right around the corner and somehow managed to avoid going here for nearly 2 years. And when there's so many amazing Chinese spots in this city I've developed a lot of skepticism towards young/hip places putting their 'spin' on Asian cuisines since the flavors and textures always seem to get muddied or watered down. That is not the case with Winson. Everything we ordered was fantastic, in particular the clams and pancakes. Don't even care how traditional or authentic any of their dishes are, it's just delicious.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that this might be my favorite restaurant in all of NYC. Everything that I had here beat the standard of what I was looking for - the vibe, music, food, drinks are all on par with some top restaurants but for a fraction of the price. I know I’ll be coming back here in the future but might have to limit myself since it’s so good. Please come here if you’re reading this, you won’t regret it at all. Telling all my friends and family about this amazing spot.
The pan griddled dumplings are to die for! Beef roll and sesame noodles also quite delicious. Was underwhelmed by fried eggplants (over cooked and too much dough) and the shrimp salad (overwhelming presentation with too many different ingredients, very little shrimp).
Friendly neighborhood place. Delicious coffee and donuts!
Order the tian mian tuan- a dreamy dessert! I also loved the sesame noodles (served warm) and pan griddled pork bun app. The beef roll could be better if the cucumber nonsense was on the side!
