Man, everything was great. Highlights were the celtuce salad, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, and the 886 Noodles. Gotta come back with a group for the BDSM Chicken.
Really wanted to give this all 5 stars but maybe we didn’t order the right dishes. Food was good but nothing that wowed me.Ambiance was really cute! Drinks were great and service was good as well!We had a good experience so I would come again to try other dishes.
Some of my friends recommended this restaurant but it’s not even good.We ordered daily limited fried while chicken costed us 55ish and it was so though and chewy. I know some people like it chewy, but most Asian restaurant cook chicken in a juicy way. We also ordered you fan, and it was so salty that we couldn’t taste other flavor it supposed to have. Shrimp floss lettuce cup, it is supposed to use the lettuce to carry the shrimp floss, but lettuce is so small and make it so difficult to do so. And it didn’t taste good.I would say numbing celtuce salad is the best among the whole order, but just among the whole order.Oh no, Beef noodle soup, is actually ok.It’s nothing to do with the authenticity, it’s just not taste good.Ps. The shortage of Taiwanese beer even make it worse…
On the front page of its website, the team at Wenwen states that they aim to bring “the comfort and flavors of the Taiwanese household to Greenpoint.” During my time dining there, one can only conclude that they succeeded with flying colors. Flavorful, well seasoned dishes arrived at our table, composed from a broad swath of ingredients and boasting a wide spectrum of flavors. The seasoning on the pickled cucumber salad was immaculately balanced, and the combination of cool, refreshing, and spicy was the perfect start to our meal. Crispy popcorn chicken and fried tofu were next, each served with complex sauces and thick dustings of seasonings. For our main courses we ordered fried rice and the 886 noodle, which were salty and delicious, layered with deep and unctuous flavors and punctuated by bright vegetables and aromatics. The favorite dish of the night may have been the pea shoots with tofu skin. The clean, delicate flavor of the peas shone through, warmed with the flavors from the oil and garlic and perfectly complimented by silky tofu skins. Definitely don’t skip this one.Eating at Wenwen was an absolute delight, and I cannot wait to return to sample more offerings from this talented and dedicated team.
Called ahead on a Sunday night to try and grab a table for 3. We were able to get a table about a hour later and are so glad we did! The fries and fried chicken were great apps. And we got the 886 noodles and pork belly rice. Both very very solid renditions of Taiwanese classics. Will definitely try and come back to try the other dishes
First tip! DO NOT ORDER THE UNI DISH!! With the initial fee+market price(+mp) it came out to $80, for far less than you would get in a uni hand roll. SECOND TIP!! Do not order the the tofu because the fish lacks creativity and any identity as a dish (order tofu from another place). The mezcal cocktail I got was decent, but it was not anything to go there l explicitly for.The great things on the menu that we ordered were the popcorn chicken, 3 cups chicken, 886 noodle, and the pea shoots(very over priced!). The dessert was questionable- it has cilantro.
Really cool little spot.Seaweed fries 10/10, had fumbled seaweed with a garlic kewpie aioli and chopped garlic as well336 noodles (I think?) 7/10 it was a bit over flavoured and salty. I think it drowned out the layers of flavour and took away from the overall dish.Fried rice 8/10 really solid fried riceDessert 9/10 amazing fried mochi dish, thought we couldn’t fit anymore food in our stomachs but this was well worth it.Only advice is to finish all the fries there because they are not the same the next morning
Very nice vibe and food. Authentic taiwanese food. Taste of noodle and chicken is breathe taking good. Rice is $3 and little over priced but its taste with flying chicken is crazy good. The best place in the green point
Maybe I’m missing something but I had the cucumber salad and the prawns and it was just.. weird? I’ve made that cuc salad before much better (you have to beat the cucs with a wooden spoon), but the prawns were all sautéed, yet you had to either dig them out of the sauce with your fingers and peel them or, as suggested by the server, eat them with the shells on for added texture. Idk. I don’t want to do that?
They serve very delicious dishes. I recommend
