Place to go for Brooklyn Blackout cake and some of the best (American-style) muffins in New York. Get some and take them to nearby Prospect Park.
My mom used to take me here as a kid, and we would get a Brooklyn blackout cake for birthdays in the family. Went there a decade later, the flowers are still on the window and on the cake, had a little bit of a ratatouille moment when i tried the cake again. Love this place :)
Horrible place with abusive and incompetent staff. They were two hours late with my cake for my mother’s 95th birthday and they screamed at me because I wanted to wait outside because none of them were wearing masks. I am immunocompromised and I am taking a cake to a 95-year-old woman…I didn’t even ask them to wear a mask, I just said I wanted to stand outside. They were really rude and abusive. Cake was bad as well. This place used to be great but it looks like they changed owners and it’s terrible now (as of June 2022). Don’t bother. There are plenty of other good places.
I arrived hours after when they said my cake would be ready and they still hadn’t done the writing. They were confused about which order it was. I had to wait for a half an hour for them to put the writing on the cake even though I had ordered it three days before. They were abusive and unprofessional and screamed at me because I told them I was immunocompromised and I wanted to wait outside (they were unmasked—that’s fine but as an immunocompromised person taking a cake to a 95-year-old woman it is my right to wait outside). The cake was bad. I think the ownership changed because this new owner is vicious and staff is incmpetent. I used to love this place but I will go elsewhere from now on. It’s not what it was. I wish the old owners had stayed. These people are awful. Don’t give them your business.
Delicious cake. The only 2 things that could make this bakery any better would be if they had curbside or delivery. Ok maybe 3 (in post-pandemic) an area to eat cake and drink coffee or tea? Maybe a few tables. But alas. I travel from Midwood to Park Slope for their cakes.
Good customer service, but sadly their cupcakes were dry. Very dry. I went on a Saturday so not sure if that made any difference.
Got an apple tart, banana chocolate chip muffin, and an oat latte. All three were excellent.. def a must try if you're in Park Slope.
For years my boyfriend and I have had a tradition of gifting each other a new cake from a different bakery for each of our birthdays to try as many possible delicious cakes in the city. That ended when we found Ladybird Bakery. There is just no competition - their cakes are so fluffy and delightful and delicious that I always count down the days until I go back. Don't sleep on the Brooklyn Cream, it's THE perfect cake.
They gave me samples to choose from to create a cake I love for my special occasion! It was so delicious!
I called from overseas to order a cake for my mother's birthday. Since they told me they would close on that date, I elected to order a ready made cake from them. The lady I spoke to told me it was ok to have a Uber driver pick it up as long as he comes before 2 pm otherwise I would not have the cake until Monday too late for my mom's birthday. She stated she will just give him the cake right away as she understood he would only be picking up and I am too far away. I managed to schedule the Uber driver who arrived at 1:36 pm only to have the lady at the counter screaming at him that he has to wait for 10 people on the line and when I tried to speak to her over the phone, she refused while also screaming at me ( I could hear her through speakerphone) even though she was aware of the situation.I have bought many cakes from them in the past but I don't think I will return because this customer service definitely sucks. Lucky for me I had a great driver who was patient enough to wait.
