Another great experience at La Vara. We've ordered just about everything on their menu through the years of coming here. There are many things that are amazing and what we've liked the least it still pretty good. If you are wondering why items look inexpensive it's because portions are small and a party of two should be ordering at least three menu items each. We like to share 4 of the six plates and then 1 dish we have all to ourselves.
Random dinner meet up with a buddy, place was amazing from start to finish! Great service, cocktails were tasty, food we ordered all had a different flavor explosion our your mouth. Took a video of their version seafood paella, wish I could share here, absolutely the best dish! 100% will go back
The outdoor patio area was super cold, food was great and drinks were also great. I think biggest negative for me with this place is that I think the plates are overpriced. The servings are small and the prices are high. Everything is high quality though and its hard to find a better authentic Spanish/Catalan food restaurant so I can’t really fault them for charging high prices… I do think though that it’s egregious to be asking 15$ for a “cocktail” which is literally just vermouth and a twist of orange though ?
Our meal here last night was outstanding- every dish was perfect, and the service and wine were excellent. It was one of the best meals we've had in ages, and we can't stop talking about it. I can't wait to return- I've already pulled up the menu to read about the items we didn't order so we can try them next time!
My partner and I didn’t have reservations on a Saturday night knowing full well we’d have to wait for bar seats, but we got drinks around the corner at Elsa and two spots opened up at the bar within 35 minutes. Food was excellent and the portions of each plate split well between the two of us. The bartender was helpful in suggesting the amount of dishes to order (5 was the magic number… we were hungry!) and suggested a great wine pairing. We’ll be back!Re. the reviews on portion/prices: I wouldn’t come here with a group larger than 4… otherwise you’re gonna be ordering multiples of some dishes depending on how large of a portion everyone wants. I think it’s a fantastic date spot or meeting a friend for a party of 2.
Restaurant is very loud- but that's not the worst- The portions are beyond ridiculously small..- I know those are tapas, but I know what tapas are- I go to Spain nearly every year, and have eaten in a lot of Spanish restaurants in the city. Smaller than these portions, I have never seen, and neither have the other 3 people with me at the table- and the prices are outrageously high for the size of the portions. 20 to 26 plus for a tiny plate??a total of 4 mussels in a mussel dish for around 20$??????? everything is like that- It gets to a point where no matter how good the food is, you feel like the management is actually laughing at you..... For us 4 , we all agreed that we will never be back- They are just laughing at us!!!

Small plates is an understatement. Deviled eggs comes 3 per order. We were a table of 4 and weren't informed it wasn't a good share dish. 8 dishes + is recommended for a table of 4. The service was touch and go; wine service was non existent. A small business staying afloat will succeed if you staff it property. If you can't afford it don't take on all the volume. Remove tables? Take less reservations? You're worried about labor costs, food costs etc. But you're hurting your bottom line by not having a solid team and superb service.To anyone reading this, do yourself a favor and skip this place. Wine glasses weren't polished (water marks all over the glasses), plates weren't changed with each coarse. Portions were so small we went to another restaurant to have an actual dinner.We order a bottle of brut, the server spilled a portion of the bottle during "tables side service" - it was about a glass lost. Was it replaced? Were we offered a glass to compensate what was lost? No.Please go to Peasant (peasantnyc.com) in downtown Manhattan. You will be blown away by the service and food.

Family style Tapas restaurant with amazing food! We had a large group and tried all the appetizers, desserts and 8 different dishes. Not one thing was bad and this is ftom an extremely picky eater.
