I came here on a Friday night to dine alone and I was taken care of so well. Staff was lovely and the 4 course meal was the perfect amount of food and left me surprised with the medley of flavors and textures. All in all I spent $100 on the 4 courses, two glasses of wine and tip. Worth every penny and I think I got a great deal. Can’t wait to come back.I LOVED the grilled scallops and persimmon mole. And the dessert was to die for: coconut chia pudding with jackfruit. The tostada with fish was
Very interesting and delicious food! We got the "6-ish" course prix fixe. I will suggest not ordering this if you're not a fan of fish. I know the dishes change but I assume this is a relatively common theme. Every dish was unique with an interesting array of flavors. It also came with a dessert which was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.
“The worst part about this meal is that I will never have the opportunity to try this again for the first time” is something I used to say at restaurants that have blown me away. Luckily, the tasting menu at Falansai has the creativity to constantly give me that experience. Nothing we had was below astonishing in flavor. I can guarantee from the service to the food this experience will become your go-to meal for any celebration or just a great night out. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS RESTAURANT!
A hip hop soundtrack, mid-century vibes in the dining room, cheeky art, and not least of all innovative vietnamese cuisine. What's not to like? The flavors could be sharper (looking at you charred cabbage) and the lighting dimmer to heighten the mood. Dad's spring rolls, green curry and dad's (hey dad!) fried rice were on point. A nice gesture was the chef making the rounds to talk to diners. We'd be down to hitting this spot again.
Wow! Each dish coming out tops the previous one. Such a wonderful experience. Service is phenomenal as well. Only suggestion would be to expand the drink menu, although what they do choose to pour is quite good.
Amazing food and experience! We loved our server. The food was inventive and filling. Will be going back with a group of friends soon!
What a great discovery. I wish I lived around the block. Everyone is very friendly, the vibe is laid back and at the same time upscale, and the food is just amazing. I ordered the prix fixe option and each course was a surprise. The soup was just gorgeous: the browned meat really added a familiar umami flavor that rounded the soup. Everything was presented beautifully and had great flavor.
Such a charming spot. It kinda feels like you are eating in someone's cool living room. It's 99% Gluten free and so tasty. Super close to so many music and dance venues.
The best service ever! Literally everyone we came into contact to greeted us and was so warm and welcoming. The food was great and the aesthetics and ambience were nice, too. At some points the music may have been a bit loud (we were sitting outside) but other than that it was perfect. And the Marianella soap in the bathroom -- divine!
Updated review (9/19 visit): At the suggestion of Falansai, we came back to give the 6ish course tasting menu another try. This time both the food and the overall experience were wonderful. On food: we tried a range of dishes, from summer rolls with beef (flavor of the beef reminded me of another Vietnamese dish (beef wrapped in betel leaf)), a fluffy surf and turf stuffed bao, crispy fried fish in a supremely fragrant, pho like broth, a potato pancake stuffed with pig head and habanadas (first time trying this - all the flavor of habaneros without the heat, very cool), among other delicious dishes. It seems most other diners order a la carte, but the food was interesting and flavorful I encourage giving the tasting menu a try.The service was not too different from our first visit with friendly, helpful staff, but some simple explanations made the visit much more enjoyable. Firstly, that the dipping sauces placed on the table were not course specific (which we figured out eventually but the first time we came, they were laid down with pickles and without comment so the intended use was very confusing) and that the wine pairing was not intended to pair with the dishes specifically, but rather a progression of lighter to fuller bodied pours.Original review (9/11 visit): My husband and I did the 6ish course tasting and had the 5 glass wine pairing. Overall, nothing was bad, but only 2 dishes were well executed and interesting to us. There was a lot of use of the same components across the courses - for example, the second course was curry beef dumplings in sour soup (delicious, but the beef filling was not as juicy as expected/on the lean side), and then for the next course, we were presented with a long pepper, filled with the same curry beef filling and then tempura fried. As you can imagine, it was basically the same flavor as the prior dish. It was served with a dijonaise that I probably saw 4 more times during the meal. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but also like ....how about something else? The wine pairing didn't really work because we were off by a glass for each course, I don't know if it was because we were slow drinkers (doubt it, places usually serve you the next pairing regardless of whether you've finished the last one) or if it just slipped the server's mind.
