Loved the weekday brunch idea! Great service, mimosas and food! Fun, welcome and upbeat atmosphere!
Enjoyed the food . The service was good. Nice atmosphere .
We visited during happy hour and loved it! Great deals on food and drink. High quality too. No complaints here, just good Mexican food!
Food was amazing. The wait time was about 30-40 mins (we did not have reservations). It was pretty busy on a Saturday around 630pm. They have outdoor seating. My group sat inside. We order the corn & guacamole for appetizers. Both were absolutely delicious. For the main We ordered the Don Plato which comes with chicken and steak and my husband got the short ribs with mole sauce. Both did not disappoint. Definitely will be coming back for the excellent service and food. Drinks were also very good. I ordered the strawberry margarita.
This place is really cool and the staff is friendly but I had to give 2 stars because of what I found in my plate: the egg shell.I mean…really?!I loved the strong margarita and the plate was great overall…but something like that I’ve never seen in a restaurant.
great service and delicious food nice vibe
This was my first time dining here and I loved it! Our neighbors recommended it and I had heard that it was the best Mexican food in the area even from strangers. We went on a Wednesday at happy hour, which naturally started with a pitcher of margaritas. The hostess was really friendly and asked what our preferences were for salt or Tajín on the rims. Honestly, I should have taken a picture of the drinks because they were well worth the money! I think there was a total of six glasses between the three of us.For food, I got the three vegetarian tacos - nopales, hongos, and aguacate con queso. All super good! I would say three to four is the perfect number of tacos. We had guacamole and chips to start with so I left the restaurant thoroughly full. Their desserts sounded great so I'll have to come back soon!
I came here today, specifically to have lunch before going to The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. I was refused a table for one. Apparently the reason being is that it is Cinco de Mayo. Really, how aweful and money hungry can you be? I sat across the street and had lunch instead. I watched as tables upon tables were unused at 20 minute intervals. I am appalled at this. Yes, it is a Mexican holiday and you're most likely going to bring in lots of money today. But to refuse a patron and use the holiday as an excuse?!!!!!! That's the spirit. So So Gross!!!!!! Here is just one photo of unused tables. Top bad too that you didn't want to take my hard earned money because I tip quite well. . Your loss. And yup, I am mad and people need to know how money hungry you are.
Chavela's was amazing! From the moment we walked in the staff was super friendly and professional. We had about 8 people in our party but didn't have to wait for more than 5 minutes to get a table. The drinks were made just right (I had a strawberry margarita). The food was exceptional! Definitely more of an adult dining experience though. We had 2 girls (10 years old) with us and they didn't seem too excited about anything on the menu. We ended up getting them french toast and quesadillas which they did enjoy. The inside of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. Would def go back again.
If you live in Brooklyn you don’t need to go too far for some good Mexican food. Chavela’s is located in crown heights and easily accessible by bus or train. It has become on of my go to places when I need a good meal. There is happy hour from 4-7 Monday through Thursday and prices of the the food are pretty reasonable.Depending on the day it can get pretty crowded by the wait is never unbearable. I always start off with the $4 tacos. I tried the Bistec tacos and they were so good, I love that the tortillas were doubled because sometimes the filling of the tacos can make the tortilla soggy.Drinks are pretty good BUT the height of my meal was the Mole! The give you so much food for only $17. The mole was flavorful, they also include rice and bean as a side and tortillas just in case you want to use that to create mole tacos instead.I will def be coming back and you should check them out next time you’re in crown heights.
