I was Recommended to come here and so glad that, I came.. I Had a beautiful anniversary dinner here.. I really enjoyed the scenery, music, and food!! Delicious Fresh Seafood.. I would have, gave 5 stars but we wasn't able to eat outside
Drove to City Island from Bay Ridge for dinner at JP’s. We’ve been here twice before. The food is excellent, the portions are huge. The staff are friendly and professional. I know it’s funny but “John at the bar is a friend of mine he gave me my second drink for free” I asked him for a Negroni he said I haven’t had a call for one in ten years. Experience City Island and JP’ is Must.
The waitress was kind and attentive. This was my first time coming here and I do like the restaurants aesthetic, very maritime/nautical. I had the stuffed flounder with shrimp, on the menu it didn’t say what it was stuffed with. I asked the waitress “is this stuffed with just shrimp” she said yes, she was wrong. I believe it was crab meat, it was pretty gross but the flounder and shrimp were good. The rice was also underwhelming, I know what you’re thinking “it’s rice”.. exactly. This rice had an odd taste to it was stale. My piña colada was good. I would come back and try the fried food because everyone else I was with enjoyed their fried seafood.
This was my second time visiting JP's. Food is amazing! Decor is very unique. It has a sort of retro vibe to it. Staff is always super friendly. My cousin got a free t-shirt from the owner. You can't go wrong with JP's. Next time you're by City Island, Please visit. You won't regret it. The drinks are great too. They'll sneak up on you.....?????
I loved the food. The bread was soo good. You have to make sure you save some room for your food. The music is Marvin Gaye style, which I love. The only thing that I really didn't like was that the lights were very dim.
Have eaten here numerous times over the years. The seafood was fresh and very good. JP (the owner and chef) is friendly and personable, the staff waitress was professional and friendly. The portions were more than generous, a meal for two would easily serve more. A good seafood meal overlooking the water is a pleasure. Mom and Dad introduced me to the place years ago, it was their go to place on City Island and ours too.
What a great place for a celebration! My family went to celebrate my birthday! The atmosphere was cozy,, the food was delicious, our waitress was extremely attentive and the owner John was so gracious! We had a ball,, and we're are all in agreement... reserve a table and enjoy!!!
I want to start by saying the place looks like a throw back and that was cool. Unfortunately that where the compliments end. The food had literally no flavor. They didn’t add salt to any dish that was ordered. I had the fried flounder and it had no seasoning what so ever. No salt no pepper. These dishes average $40–50. The least they could do is add some salt. It’s grossly overpriced for bland food. It was really disappointing because it’s reviewed highly. I can say with certainty that I won’t try this place again. For the price they can afford to buy salt.
Food was good, you can tell it was fresh .. its a bit pricey, but you have to pay for quality. The red sangria was so good! They could seriously benefit from hiring extra staff, esp on the weekends... wait time was ridiculously long and the place wasn't even that busy...our waitress didn't make her way to us until almost 45 minutes after being seated. In the interim, she didn't even bring us water, bread, or anything... huge disappointment.
Went with my husband he got linguini and clam sauce which was Inedible I had surf and turf but no filet mignon they have surf and turf with a shell steak. My husband’s portion was gigantic but it doesn’t matter if you can’t eat it because it tasted so bad . I ordered my strak medium but is was served well done. On the positive side the waitress was very nice. I will never go back
