Food was good but over priced for a lunch over $70 for me and my mother. Upcharge on everything when prices are already high, portion just average not worth it for price. Food was good and clam chowder was good ask for Bowl not sure but very small. Funny how they charge fees for credit card and no discount for cash tired of restaurants raise prices, smaller portion sizes and fees for credit card and then tip. Staff was excellent. We own a business and have lowered prices to help families and no extra fees either. I would rather make less and do more business and make more in volume but seems like most businesses rather charge more for less customers.
I grew up on Long Island, taught at the Middle School until I retired. We were frequent diners at the Clam Bar. I particularly fell in love with their Manhattan clam chowder. It’s so chock full of clams and vegetables! After retiring, we moved to Maine where, sadly, I have yet to see anything offered besides New England. So, whenever I returned to visit friends, I always stopped to get 4 or 5 quarts to bring back. Yes, I did freeze it for the trip. Pure heaven in the winter!
I've lived on Long Island for all 33 years of my life so far and had never been to the Chowder Bar, which was a huge oversight on my part. The decor is eclectic without being too busy and it's an intimate place, but the food? Every single thing we ordered was absolutely fantastic. Obviously made fresh and by hand. The homemade lemonade was perfect, the French Onion soup was wonderful, and their fried shrimp is by far the best I've ever had. My group enjoyed both the New England and Manhattan clam chowders, my kid was thrilled with his first fried ice cream experience, and we look forward to coming back to try the Long Island Chowder as well as the rest of the menu. We briefly met Lynda, one of the owners, and she was very friendly and engaging, as was the rest of the staff. I definitely recommend maybe calling ahead as they were busy, but it was well worth the wait.
cozy little restaurant with delicious menu & great service!
Tasty food in a cool spot right by the water. Their clam chowder was EXCELLENT - the name suits them well!Kid-friendly, and our kids enjoyed all the decor (and wanted a picture with the “pirate wheel”).
Great cozy little place with the greatest staff and good food. It’s a must try
The clam chowder was tasty but watery. The fried shrimps were tasty but small and a very small portion size. The french fries were obviously not fresh cut potatoes and made from frozen. It doesn't take a lot of effort to make fresh cut fries. The location is great, next to the ferry. The dining room is cozy and quaint. The wait staff is outstanding; very attentive and friendly. The prices are great.Overall a C+
Our lunch was awesome as usual my wife had one of the special Cajun fried scallops and I had the Cajun burger with their homemade cole slaw which is the best
Simply delicious stick to your ribs comfort food. Local and friendly. The chowder absolutely lives up to it's reputation.
The food was delicious and the waitress was very friendly. My family loved the soups. Very simple place.
