Well it’s good first the waitress was mean Then the server was nice
A nice change for my wife and I. We're tired of all the chain restaurants and we thought we would go to the Gateway Diner. My wife's Veal Parmesan looked delicious and the Fried Seafood Platter was on point. It was very clean inside and a lot of parking. The desert's looked amazing and you can tell there homemade. It's always been a good breakfast spot but we'll definitely be back for dinner.
Food and service was great. Had the lumberjack breakfast which was very good. Definitely filled me up. Very polite and professional staff. Made sure that you had everything you needed. Restaurant was very clean plus the seating location for dinning. The price for the meal was very good as well.
This is my third time at this establishment. Three strikes and they are out. Food is very disappointing and just not worth going a fourth time.
The Gateway Diner is an Albany mainstay serving up good food with great service.I don't know many diners which cater to such a wide clientele. They offer many diner standards hash that they make in-house, to meatloaf, to incredible looking cakes and pies. This diner also has a liquor license allowing them to serve up adult beverages as well. Whatever you're looking for, it seems they've got you covered.I didn't have high expectations going in other than to possibly have to wait for a table given how full the parking lot was. However, the restaurant is much bigger than I thought and we were immediately seated. Our server quickly greeted us and made up for the lackluster welcome that our 'host' gave us. She was friendly, answered our questions and offered suggestions, and she was there to check on us a couple of times throughout our meal. She definitely gave us 5-star service. Our server said they just updated up their menu so it seems their online menu varies a bit from their current dishes. I believe I got the Gateway omelette which now comes with spinach, mushrooms, onions, hash, and cheese which was a delicious combination. The corn beef hash is made in-house and was tender and full of flavor. I added onions to my home fries and a side of rye toast. All was good.My husband had the poached eggs. He said the hollandaise sauce was great. The only short comings were that my omelette was a bit over done - crisp on the outside, the poached eggs were overcooked, and the well done home fries were more tough than crispy. Despite that, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.Great value as there's plenty of food for the cost and great service from our server. We'll definitely be going back for more.
LOVED the wings and the fries! I got medium buffalo wings and asked for some extra sauce. The wings were perfectly cooked, crispy yet moist, with the most delicious zippy flavor in every bite. The fries are some of the best in the Capital Region - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, with distinct potato flavor, and a very generous portion, too - there was enough left over for lunch the next day.
The best food my husband and I have had in a long time. Service was excellent I was very impressed with the atmosphere and kindness of all the employees. Definitely worth the trip to eat there. I'm a hour away decided to stop in for lunch after an appointment,so glad I did.
Sat at the bar for an early lunch, took a full 6min for someone to say hi. Bloody Mary was delicious, one of the best in the area IMO. Service was friendly when she arrived. Grilled cheese and chips hit the spot.
I went thinking I was going to get a halfway decent meal and boy was I wrong. I got the fisherman's platter and my date got a Philly cheesecake. My fish was,so overdone and horrible and the cheesecake also a horrible meal. Mine was supposed to come with Coleslaw n fries. I had to ask for them twice and then was charged for both of them. The music was so loud in the background you couldn't hear the person across the table from you. The service was horrible. Never again...
Awesome restaurant. Traveling thru Albany and Googled place for breakfast, one on list. Glad we went here. Staff is very friendly and professional. Atmosphere very relaxing. A lot of choices for breakfast. Next time thru Albany, will go to again. But planning on supper time to try dinner menu.
