Friday night it was busy but next reservation was only 20 mins wait. Love the fire place. Worth a visit!
Ill start with this place is SUPER CLEAN ! they have some good procedures in place and it shows. The service was very good, From the appetizers to the entrées just delicious We had the Iceland Cod and the Broiled cauliflower, & mussels everything was excellent, We are from out of town & Arthur who works on the Taco truck recommended this place and happy he did ! When back in town this is my spot.
Reservations are a must. We arrived without reservations and were seated in the back at the bar. Not ideal and very cold. Food was good though. If we come again, we will make reservations.
Navona makes good food and good drinks at an affordable price. It’s one of my favorites in the Albany area.
This place has been a few different restaurants in the past, but don’t judge this restaurant on it’s predecessors. An amazing fresh menu that kills on the culinary level and great friendly staff make this a must see in Albany. The ambiance and soft, yet modern interior refreshes are kind to this restaurant, but what really impressed was the menu. It’s different and really delicious. Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed.
We frequent this neighborhood joint because the wood-fired pizza is so delicious, with usually a great special variety each night. Plus the bread that comes out of that oven is absolutely fantastic - warm, chewy, with a salty crust. Just that and a salad is a great light dinner. We had the gnocchi last night, and while it tasted terrific, the portion size was ridiculously small...for $21, it should have been twice as large. And no matter how busy the place is, it always seems to take longer than it should to get our food. So what should be an hour-long meal takes 90 minutes. But if you go expecting that, then there's no reason to avoid going.
Having spent a day in Albany , my sense is that it is far from being the culinary capital of Upper New York State ( or any State , Province, Region or Territory for that matter). That being said we were very pleasantly surprised by Navona. It had a bit of that hipster vibe that seems to be lacking in the city. And the food is very good. An appetizer of mussels and clams was excellent, and the addition of pieces of ground pork made for a tasty surprise. A Caeser Salad was crisp and not overly moist. The main course Margaretta Pizza was also excellent. The edges were nicely crisped and the cheese was obviously of high quality. A complimentary bread and chees platter was much appreciated and very good as well. Service was friendly and attentive. Wine list was interesting and reasonably priced. All in all a very nice experience.
Navona's pleasant, quiet atmosphere, combined with good service and food provided a welcome resting place after a morning of appointments at nearby Albany Medical Center. It is a short -- 15 minute -- walk from the hospital, better than anything in the more immediate area, and no scrubs in view!! Lunch menu has some traditional Italian fare as well as classic sandwiches and salad. I had an ABLT, i.e. BLT with avocado, which came on a nice crisp roll and a glass of Pinot Noir. Prices are reasonable. Although the doctor didn't "order" it, it was good medicine!
Restaurant Navona on New Scotland Avenue was a great find while waiting for a church meeting! The Cacio E Pepe is absolutely superb- potato gnocchi in a brown pepper sauce with Pecorino Romano cheese, not wimpy Parmesano. There was also no problem going off menu for a “dessert” of broccoli rabe/ rapini. The portions are European, i.e., small, but allow for some variety in the meal. If you like American portions, Navona may not be for you, but if you like excellent food and don’t mind paying a fair price for it, check this place out. “I shall return!” Very attentive, but not hovering, table service.
What can I say about this gem? The Future Mrs. and I were up in the area finalizing wedding details and after a long day we decided to go out to dinner. Browsing through the countless spots in the area I had a craving for pizza. While reading through the menu I came across a pizza called the “cheese puddle” and read it aloud. I got an immediate yes out of my better half who usually never makes decisions like that on a whim. We went and it was everything we thought it would be. We had to wait for a table for 25 minutes, but we sat at the bar and passed the time rather quickly with a Nine Pin and a glass of wine. We got to the table where I ordered a Tom Collins and she took her glass of wine with her. Whoever the bartender that night was got it right and I wanted another but opted out due to the drive back. We Started with Mary’s meatballs which were very good. Sauce was delicious. For dinner the Mrs. got the Cheese puddle pizza and I got the Pizza Navona. She was full from the meatballs after 2 bites, but I couldn’t resist and finished my whole pizza. Sad to say we were just visiting so we won’t be able to come more unless were in town. Overall this is a can’t miss spot in Albany. We would highly recommend.
