Fabulous dinner! The tables are a nice size, plenty of room for food and wine. The wait staff is attentive and very pleasant. The food is delicious. The veal chop I ordered was cooked perfectly. Dinner companion had a seafood/ pasta special that had a delicious variety of flavors. There was a terrific little band playing in the cocktail area that were surprisingly talented. A really perfect meal with great service and ambiance. Very enjoyable evening!
I have been coming to Albany for work monthly for years. This is the only place I eat at while in town. I come here 5 days in a row monthly for 8 years now! The food is excellent and the service is even better. Don’t think about it. Just get here. You won’t be disappointed.
I’ve only eaten here once but it was really nice. The restaurant is tucked away so I’d like to Call it a hidden gem. The food was really good & the portion sizes were more than to be expected. They also had a great live band playing music! Between the food and music it was a great experience.
I normally don’t like to leave reviews, but my hopes for this place were so high, I thought it was important to let others & the restaurant know about our experience. We had heard it was the best Italian in the Capital District. The ambiance was nice, but we had concerns with our server. He kept wanting to take our wine menu, though we said we hadn’t decided on anything yet. I ordered a cocktail he forgot to put the order in for. Mostly though, we were disappointed with the pasta. I got the clams vongole and the pasta dish was too thick as a sauce, almost pasty like tooth paste, was supposed to be thin, white wine sauce, and was too salty to eat. We were charged for the full meal, though we were offered a free dessert. Had the manager come over and offered us something else, we might consider returning, but at this point it’s not a place we’d recommend unfortunately.I’m adding a comment because I actually left the server a pretty nice tip because he was a young guy and think he was probably doing the best job he could. But the owner’s response below kinda says it all I think…
We had a delicious mea! The tables are big enough to hold the food and wine comfortably. The service is attentive and timely. The food was delicious! Perfect place for dinner!
Family dinner night out to celebrate a birthday. Highly recommended by family and friends but my first visit. Could not have asked for a better experience. Wide selection of entrees, extremely attentive service offered at a comfortable pace, the sweet spot between rushed and ignored. I chose from one of the specials offered in addition to the well thought out menu. Tonight's seafood special was Ahi, seasoned and dressed to perfection. Will definitely be back.
Food was phenomenal!! The waitstaff is superb. The reason for four stars instead of five is the hostess. Very unfriendly, very un-accomodating. We were at Grappa for a romantic evening, she was aware of it, and we were seated by the kitchen, next to the server's station. We asked if we could be moved to a different table and were told, very curtly, no! There was one other couple in the restaurant at the time. The table next to us, which was the one we asked for, was seated about 15 minutes before we left. In spite of her, we had a lovely evening! The food is absolutely amazing! And the portions are perfect - not so much that you have to take so much home. Our waitress, as well as the rest of the waitstaff, was wonderful! And prices are very reasonable - we were pleasantly surprised when she brought our bill! We even checked it over to be sure we were charged for everything! Despite the attitude of the hostess (maybe she was having a bad day), we highly recommend Grappa 72!!
I went here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and the overall visit was very pleasant. Parking was a breeze because they had a huge parking lot upon entering the establishment we were welcomed by live music. They took a little while to seat us but once we were seated the service was great. We both ordered the steak with mashed potatoes and spinach which was delightful. My steak was a bit try but it was accompanied by a wonderful sauce. We liked that the menus they gave us were disposable in light of the pandemic and tables were distanced. We were given complementary glasses of wine as we were celebrating our anniversary. The desert was also delightful we had the cream Brulé and it was delicious.
This is absolutely my favorite Italian place in the Albany area. Been coming here for years and they absolutely never disappoint! The ambiance is wonderful, waitstaff attentive, prices reasonable, food delicious... (I'm selfishly hesitant to give such a glowing review because I don't want others to catch on so it becomes hard to get a table!) :) I'm sad that COVID put the kibosh on their lunch service, hopefully that will come back some day. Just ate there on a Thursday night with a girlfriend and they had live music. What a nice touch! We thoroughly enjoyed that! They also have great patio dining in better weather. Perfect date night or special occasion spot. Keep up the good work, Grappa!
The restaurant was classy but with reasonable prices. There was no wait with reservations and the restaurant wasn't overcrowded. They had a great live band that sang a variety of songs. The waitress said they can accommodate any drink we want. The food was delicious. The wait staff was attentive. We even received free champagne on the house because it was a birthday occasion. We will definitely go there again.
