We have been diners at Piccolino's for several years, trying almost every item on the menu. Can't pick a favorite. Everything is good, and never had a clinker. Dining in is pleasant and good service, probably after a wait to be seated, due to its popularity. Pickup service is also very efficient.
Dined at Piccolino with my wife while visiting Santa Fe. Comfortable medium-sized restaurant with no presumptions. The menu is close to the length of War and Peace, leaving me concerned that it might be difficult to produce quality in that quantity. One bite into dinner dispelled any concerns I might have had. The Veal and Eggplant Parmigiana was amazing in the depth of the sauce and its ingredients. My wife had the Scallop and Shrimp Special and it was exceptional. Great service and meals. We will be back every trip to Santa Fe!
After 5 or 6 days out here, I have vowed not to eat anything else mexican. Now that I have made that decision, I tasked my wife to do the easy part and find a non-mexican restaurant. She then smiled at me shyly and immediately turned the task over to SIRI. God bless SIRI. after traveling about 20 minutes through some very questionable neighborhoods, we came upon a building that was as questionable or more questionable than what we had been seeing for the last 20 minutes. My first thought…….I’m not going in there. There were no red checkered tablecloth instead there were black checkered tablecloths. There were no fat women in buns and aprons speaking Italian instead threre were busy ladies with long raven hair speaking Spanish. Somebody give me a moment to recalibrate. It’s a come in the door, sit anywhere, put on your bib and get ready for a great Italian meal place. The menu was incredibly extensive and my wife and I finally decided to have spaghetti bolognese and Shrimp Piccolino. There was also a big plate of warm focaccia bread with pesto oil drizzled on top. And there was a cup of marinara sauce, if that was to your liking. There was a reasonable selection of wines, of which my wife found a great sweet white. I stuck with my old dependable cold beer. When the food arrived, it was picture worthy. The shrimp in my wife’s dish were huge and opaque and they were surrounded with mushroom, red and green peppers, and a wonderful butter based sauce. The plate also included a reasonable portion of spaghetti with a marinara sauce on it. Besides being picturesque my wife said it was some of the best Italian food she had ever eaten. For my spaghetti bolognese, it was hardy and zesty and voluminous. Let me add my voice to the voices of the ages…..never judge a book by its cover.
Went for something other than Southwestern during our visit. They bring garlic bread and marinara automatically. Wife had baked ziti and I had calzone. Huge portions. We both brought enough back for another meal tomorrow. Good prices too.
It’s not good it’s not bad. It will full fill your Italian needs when you’re craving some. I will say, their regular marinara is lacking flavor depth. My mother had their Chicken Picatta and it was quite bland. My father had what is pictured and he enjoyed it. I had Calamari far Diavolo and it was fairly tasty. The spicy marinara had a much better flavor depth.Pizza there is a big pass. Entirely mediocre, even for NM which has notoriously sub par pizza. That said, the restaurant was packed and there was a wait at 8pm so maybe I’m just wrong. Check it out, you may like it more than we did.
Love, love, love this place. Not fancy or much to look at. But food is wonderful. And reasonably priced. Staff is friendly, efficient, accommodating. Have been numerous times since moving to Santa Fe Favorites: We've tried three veal dishes, all good. All of the pastas we tried were wonderful. Pizza is the way I like it -- saucy and a semi-thick crust. Greek salad is good (though I like ranch dressing rather than the vinaigrette). We enjoy the gelatos for dessert. And we always take some home -- large portions. We'll be back -- often.
Absolutely love their food. I usually get their chicken penne and love the sauce it’s in. Cute and intimate restaurant. Staff are incredibly fast and friendly. Definitely recommend for anyone in the area.
Great spot for good quality quick Italian dishes. Large menu will probably have something for everyone. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and quick service make this a frequent lunch choice of mine.
This time it was pizza, but order pasta, or any other Italian staple and I’m never ever disappointed. Large pizza for under $20? The value is shocking! Spinach ravioli? Where else can you get it like this?Through the drive through take-out window, that’s where!Located in midtown, this is close to my business in the industrial area…a bit of a food desert. Best food on the block!
My son and I have been eating at Piccolino for years. The food is consistently excellent and very moderately priced with huge portions. They currently require all takeout orders to be picked up at the drive-thru window and this may mean a long wait in line, but totally worth it if you plan in advance.
