I went to Herve Wine Bar for the first time on a recent trip to Santa Fe. I have been by this location many times but did not realize what an amazing gem was hiding down that long entryway off the street. When we arrived and first walked into the main seating area I was amazed and impressed by the openness and the light from the large glass ceiling. The decorations and live music on a Friday night made it even better.I decided to get a glass of wine while the other people in my party got flights. I was impressed with the quality of the wine and we found a number of wines that we really liked. The menu has some amazing food with a real creative flair and is designed to go well with the wine. We chose to get the hummus and lavender-infused feta sampler plate. Both the hummus and the feta cheese had bold imaginative flavors and went great with the cucumbers and the soft wedges of warm pita. This was the perfect size plate for three people to enjoyI highly recommend adding Herve Wine Bar to your locations to visit in Santa Fe.
The wine is a mixed bag... great or gross and if you can get a staffer to guide you it is really helpful. Unfortunately, it seems that you have to be a regular to get some interaction. Strange given that there were as many staff working as customers in a Saturday. We came in and had little interaction with our server.. a short time later two regulars arrived and quickly had an off menu flight, a comped cheese plate and plenty of info on other wines that were available from the same server. The differential treatment made me and my partner feel like 2nd class customers.Won't be back anytime soon. Shame.
We enjoyed this establishment very much. The physical space itself just feels good with the high ceiling being a key feature. Staffing shortages limited the number of tables they could accommodate the evening we were there but the place was still jumping with a solo musician to help things along. Good food offerings as well as an extensive selection of New Mexican wines. (Who knew?! But winos take note that these wines are frequently very different from the California tastes you are familiar with.) We certainly look forward to going here again our next trip to Santa Fe.
Went here twice it was so good! Great wine! Flights! The apps n food Insanely good! The atmosphere is positively beautiful n classic!
My wife and I stopped in for a wine taste before dinner. We sat at the bar and each ordered a flight. John, the bartender, was incredibly helpful in wine selection, description and information about Santa Fe in general. We enjoyed it so much we were back the next day for preprandial snacks and wine! Just as much fun! The selection is wide and, based on our samples, delicious! Food too! Would recommend to anyone!
Didn't want a big meal. Discovered Herve Wine Bar while walking around town. Found it to be a good choice. We had the Herve Board (charcuterie). The crostinis were to hard to eat unless you wanted to crack a tooth, otherwise enjoyed the rest of the items on the board. Fun decor. Kind of a Parisian atmosphere. Would definitely go back ONLY if there was no live entertainment. There was an individual singer when we first arrived. Although it's a 2 level place with the middle open to the skylite roof, the 1st level is small in number of tables. The 2nd level is like a wrap around baloney with tables. It still has an intimate feeling. The problem was the volume on the singer's microphone was soooooo loud you could not hear a word anyone at your table was saying. It took away all enjoyment of the meal. Thankfully he finished his set little over half way through our meal so we had a reprieve to be able to talk to each other. Service was not good. Once our food was brought, the server disappeared. Never came back to see if we even needed more water. After we had finished and been waiting for a while, finally saw him and got his attention for the check. Like so many places today, service can sometimes be a hit or miss. He could have just had a bad day. That won't keep up from going back when in Santa Fe again.
This place is wonderful for an end of evening drink with local and regional wines (and some national), founded by a multi-generational French family of winemakers from Burgundy, France. The place has an upscale New Orleans kind of vibe with a two story main room and a delightful staff. The menu, albeit limited, was superb. The ideal place to close out a day. Can't wait to come back.
A first class place! Wine-tasting. Notable decor. A neighborhood gem. Terrific variety of wines. We went back twice in three days.
Great pit-stop for wine tasting and food while you shop all the fun beautiful stores downtown Santa Fe. We chose to sit outside in the sunshine and their beautiful entryway.. very charming and comfortable. Their indoor space is fantastic too. To be frank, expected a more generic type food and had low expectations. They beat our expectations… and John our fab server beat everything! He was just incredible in his recommendations and pairings - ask for him by name, you won’t regret it. Shared a white and red wine flight with some extra port by glass. It was delicious. Some of the whites were a bit too sweet for me but still cold and crisp, nice with what we were eating. Every dish we picked was great, but the one that surprised us the most was the bean soup. Yes bean soup! what we would have never ordered… but John convinced us. He was spot on - the pairing of that soup with the Malbec was out of this world! Thank you John, you rocked it. What a delightful experience that enhanced our day.
It's one of our favorite places in Santa Fe, which we only get to every few months. The menu might seem small to some visitors, but the selection is there to support and highlight the wines, which are worth the trip alone. One of our favorites of the Les combes wines is their Semillon, and don't miss the chance to have the bacon-wrapped dates...
