Pleasant surprise. Been meaning to go for awhile and things kept getting in the way. So spur of the moment and meet the Missus and son there to give it a whirl. On the plus side they're definitely capturing that 1950s Route 66 diner vibe. The milkshake machine was acting up, but they managed to cajole a vanilla shake out and made everyone happy. On the minus side it took a good spell for the burgers to be ready, then lunch sat under the heat lamps excessively long, and my order was way wrong. Granted they looked busy and undermanned, but I'll go one more time to try their famous steak fries with gravy meal. The table next to us said it was delicious and their go to meal. Toss a coin and see what comes up.
I've been eating here all my life.... In there original location off central. It's like going to a family members house to eat with my own family. Was really excited to see them open more locations especially on the main travel highways. I would recommend the green chili huevos rancheros smothered with red chili! :P
If I could give 0 stars paid $48 for a double rough and 2 chicken dinners what wasn't raw was burnt. Not the same as it used to be and before anyone says things happen this is the 2nd time recent that the food was disgusting. I won't be back the 2 cashier's were great but the cook had attitude and food sucked
Husband liked the steak fingers. Tacos were greasy. We were done eating before we got our drinks because the guy making drinks was also taking orders and he cleared the line before asking our drinks.
Everything was overdone. Not just "rough" but very hard. Shrimp, onion rings and fries. Chocolate shake was a disaster. Machine needed to be filled to even make the shake. Chocolate weak (too little?) and not well blended. Only one person working the counter. Six customers lined up behind me after I stepped up to order. Glad I wasn't at the back of the line.
Went here about 2 night's ago for supper before it was closing time, was told they were closed due to NO FOOD. Went today and got the rough meal. They forgot the onion stick, no silverware, coleslaw was very soggy, fries had a funny taste, the roughs were good. Their hand sanitizer was full but did not work
Decent food, but the price just doesn’t match quality. The price is up to almost 3 dollars per steak finger. I think I paid about 20 dollars for 6 piece with no fries :/ way too much. Food supply issues are probably the cause but still. Unfortunate because the prices online and on the board at this location do not reflect the true price. They should definitely update.
It's a circus of a wait, people keep pouring in because nobody cooks at home nowadays, but the food and drinks are very good, so it's worth stopping for. Check your order carefully before you leave if taking home.
An ABQ fast food institution. Rough dinners (steak fingers) are great. I also like the onion rings and milkshakes. The only knock against Mac's is that they only have two locations (Menaul/San Mateo & 528 in Rio Rancho).
We ordered 2 fish baskets, 3 steak in the roughs and 1 chicken basket. The fish baskets has maybe 5 fries and the chicken looks like it took a shower in salt. The east side Mac in the Rough is well worth the drive! Don’t even bother with the Rio Rancho one.
