I remember when walking into this place made me all warm and fuzzy inside. WOW, HAS IT CHANGED! IT LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!!! It almost looks like a scotch tape factory blew up inside. And most of the signs are rude with "!" at the end. Awful service, and they obviously don't even know what they are handing out! There was absolutely no love in the food. I will never go there again! Please look at pics! The potato salad was mashed, the toast was burnt on one side, and apparently this is what collard greens look like! Oh yeah, and they force you to eat outside!
I won't ding them on atmosphere. Every place needs fixed every once in a while. They are in process as of this writing in fixing their roof leaks. The brisket was great. The greens were awesome. The cornbread was great with butter.
Normally the food is great at Powdrells on Central. However this time we purchased babyback ribs, potato salad, and coleslaw. The potato salad was green with too much sweet relish and or vinegar. The coleslaw was tasteless. The ribs were full of fat. Needless to say we were very disappointed. We were almost afraid to eat the potato salad. Hope next time will be better.
I love Powdrell's! It's an Albuquerque favorite. When I feel like some comfort food and BBQ this is my goto restaurant. The staff are super friendly and they've handled the covid19 protocols with grace. Extremely consistent.
Good food. The barbeque sauce is thin. I enjoy pretty much everything on the menu. Wonderful family and business.They have added a spicy barbeque sauce to the menu. Yum! Pick up order only at this time.
I swear, it doesn't get any better than this. Big ribs that just fall off the bone, juicy brisket with that melt-in-your-mouth fat, creamy homemade mac and cheese for a side... When I think of BBQ, I'm willing to go further just to get it here. Great prices, generous portions, such nice people... My favorite BBQ in ABQ.

Had a lunch special, sandwich with a side. They had great fried okra and really well-balanced collard greens. There are lots of BBQ places but Powdrell's is top shelf in Albuquerque.
Excellent service and THE spot for BBQ in ABQ. First tell was the smell of hickory outside. Hickory is very hard to find here and they confirmed personal trips to Texas to get it. Excellent choice.We're partial to Memphis style, but thrilled with this Texas style char house. We tried other spots and always left a little flat, came home resigned to fire up our own smoker. (To be fair, we've won awards in amateur class competitions.) That wasn't the case here. Powdrell's came correct.Never tried the sauce as good flavor doesn't need it and this certainly didn't. The brisket, turkey, sausage, and catfish delivered on their own; flavorful and moist. Delicious!This place -Mr Powdrell's- is the real deal, it cannot be beat.
Our family likes the food here but we may be biased as we have been regulars for 50 years. Not always extraordinary like this last visit, but generous portions and the friendliest people on East Central. Thank y'all!
