I will admit it is a gorgeous restaurant and the food sounded incredible, but, unfortunately, we were greeted by a server who seemed completely stoned and, hearing the conversation with the chef in the back, so was the chef. We literally heard him say “Kay I’ll get their waters” giggle “1,2,3” chef laughs “Nice” chef responds. We didn’t feel comfortable with them making our food at the prices we saw. It was so disappointing.
Place is terrible. Poor coordination, slow service, and they don’t serve wine. Waited an hour and was told that the appetizers (a salad) hadn’t even been made yet.
The French Cuisine is exquisite, elegant and fabulous! The Tarragon Chicken just melts in your mouth and flavorful! French Beouf Bourguignon a' L'orange is delicious and the meat is so tender and rich with fresh orange flavor! The Spinach Salad was flavorful! The French Onion soup was rich in flavor and delicious! The atmosphere is beautiful with all the paintings and antiques! They have a beautiful piano for music! The service was exceptional! The Chef is fantastic and creative! I recommend it! We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and they even congratulated us!
Talk about a wonderful and authentic classic French lunch experience!!! We travel to France (where a daughter and her family are permanently installed) at least twice a year, spending at least 4-8 weeks each stay. Chez Axel is the perfect reincarnation of a French neighborhood restaurant with its simple, well prepared, classic French dishes that the French still enjoy on a regular basis. And yes, even the unpretentious decor and warm hospitality makes us feel "right at home".The fresh spring pea soup and the French onion soup were spot on. My husband ate every morsel of his Chicken Provencal, mopping up his plate of every last trace with a piece of the classic Paris style baguette (!!?in ABQ!). My brother and I thoroughly enjoyed our ham and spinach crepe made with the classic "Paris style" ham and plenty of freshly lightly cooked spinach. We also appreciated the absolute authenticity of the vegetables served-- lightly seasoned and nice and tender the way you'd find them in France--- the French are not into "crisp tender"...We were so happy, but wanted to be virtuous, so we split their signature chocolate mousse-- another perfect example of a chef's personal take on a classic that you'll experience at homey neighborhood restaurants in France. We have officially added Chez Axel to our very, very short list of restaurants we patronize almost weekly. We can't to experience the dinner menu, as well!!!
I went to this french restaurant and everytime I was delighted by the savory dishes such as the filet mignon au poivre, the seabass, the salmon white wine flambe ... every dishes were meticously prepared by the Cordon Bleu chef!
This was a great find off the beaten path. Really tasty food and friendly staff. It was our first time there and we'll definitely be back. My only "complaint" is that the parking lot was very dark at night and made it look like the restaurant wasn't open. I'm not knocking off a star for it, though. Still highly recommend, don't let the dark parking lot fool you, it was open and great :-)
My gal has been wanting to dine here for a very long time, and tonight we finally got the chance. Indoor dining must have just been allowed again, and we were first in the door. Thank you, Daniel, for a wonderful meal and grand dining experience!
French food and service at this location is super good. I will be bringing family next time. The bill was appropriate.
Wonderful food and service. I just wish they had wine!
This use to be one of my favorite places to eat, but I think I’ll reconsider ever coming here again. Besides that service be horrible the last couple times I have came this time takes the cake and forever ruined this place for me! I put in an order for two meals, when it was 39 minutes till I started heading town to pick up my order when an employee call to tell me that they ran out of scallops for my order and the meal will take an extra 30 minutes. Being that I was already on my way I just decided to wait there and 5minutes before the order was suppose to be ready I was called to hear a new story that the vendor was unable to deliver the food so they could cook my order! The problem with supporting small businesses is some have lost all respect for the customers and customer service has gone out the window.
