My daughter and I came to Van Gogh’s for a cappuccino and lunch. It was a little cleaner than 2 years ago but not much and I don’t understand why broken seats and filthy dark with dirt seats aren’t replaced and dusty fans aren’t cleaned.Even the counter where the coffee and cappuccinos are made is a bunch of junk and boxes in a glass display case and it’s just dirty. Organize it. Clean it up. Put some thing that has something to do with the restaurant in there. We gave it another shot but I will never return there again. We were greeted, told we could sit anywhere and it took a little bit to find a clean place to sit.We were having a good time just talking and hanging out and after about 10 minutes we asked if we could have menus. Finally we were told that you have to scan the QR code and pull the menu up on your phone. The QR code worked on my phone but my daughters phone didn’t so she pulled up the website for the menu. The waitress asked what we would like to order and my daughter ordered vegetarian sandwich with baby greens but she couldn’t have that because it was on the “old” menu. We can’t go off that menu on the website because we have to use the QR code scanned menu. OK. It was the same exact sandwich except baby greens instead of vegetables. Ok so she ordered the vegetable sandwich.I ordered off the lunch special menu half a soup and a half a sandwich. I ordered white bean & sausage soup, and half of a chickpea salad sandwich. The waitress came back and said it’s half a soup and a salad (THE MENU SAYS IN PRINT HALF SOUP & HALF SANDWICH) so you can’t get the chickpea salad sandwich. I showed her the menu where it states says half a soup and half a sandwich, but if it’s half a soup and salad now. OK then I’ll take the soup with the chickpea salad as a salad and not a bread. She said oh but it has to be a salad! WT…..?? OK. I replied I’ll have nothing I will just drink my Pellegrino water please thank you.Seriously the whole thing was very awkward and uncomfortable. This is so strange. Then the waitress came back and said I could actually get what I ordered because she was hitting the wrong button when ringing up the order or whatever. What??I replied, OK I’ll have whatever you give me then. She said she didn’t really know the menu because she works nights. I’ve waitressed before and I always had to know the menu. You should know your menu OR print up the menu if Van Gogh’s is going to constantly change the menu and their own staff doesn’t know what they serve or what customers can order. The chickpea salad sandwich and soup was OK. My daughter said her grilled vegetable sandwich was good. The check was $28 and my tiny bottle of Pellegrino was $3, the sandwiches and soup and 1/2 sandwich at $9 OK. The portions are ok, but again the place is dirty and needs to be cleaned and dusted.PLEASE clean the glass case that the waitresses stand at and where patrons can order coffee!!And after that I leave a 20% tip. Why? Yes she still did her job but it’s supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. It’s like handing out a participation ribbon.
The food here is consistently good, but the service is consistently mediocre, or less than. Too many people in their late teens/early 20s who have a nonchalant attitude when doing anything from answering the phone, to checking in on you while serving your table. Not everyone is bad, but a few seem to notably not care. I've been coming here for years, so I wish this would have been resolved long b4 now, but clearly they only hire very young folks. No shade to those who are young. It would just be nice if they were either trained better, or only people with good attitudes were hired. I'm moving away, so I'll no longer be in the area. Farewell Van Gogh's.
We used to love coming here. The food and drinks are still good! Now they kick you out the second it’s closing time - and super rudely if I might add. The vibes just aren’t the same, but I’d still come pick up a tollhouse cookie tart to go.
I work remote and spent time here in the afternoon. Super cozy and empty if you go in the middle of the day. The staff is nice and friendly. The cake I had was a little sweet, but the taste can vary from person to person.Would recommend
Such an amazing place! delicious food, crafted fancy beverages, super cozy setup and the staff is so nice and friendly ... don't hesitate to come and try everything in the menu ? , they also have live music , can't go wrong here. (also they have a bakery next door, for humans and pups)
Poised in the center of Union is this cute, unique, café. Comfy chairs and couches to do work and enjoy coffee/tea/hot chocolate or have lunch at a table in a comfy chair. I tried the honey lavender hot chocolate and WOW! It was amazing totally recommend! The lavender adds such great flavor especially for a day like today thats 27 degrees out! I also ordered a honey mustard chicken wrap with pasta salad and the chicken was grilled to perfection! I took it to go because of the time I had but would love to come and hang out. It looks like they had live music events planned and support the LGBTQ community with a t shirt fundraiser. Great spot for a cute little date or to chat and catch up with friends! Parking is a little tough because its in the center of Union so be sure to drive around for street parking or the municipal lots and you will be fine. Definitely going back!
Great cozy place for the best coffee/thee in all sizes and flavors. Good food with even better desserts. We've made this our favorite spot in Union NJ area.
Stopped by for first time. Nice big place. Got a Sumatran pour over which was light roasted which was unusual as Sumatran is usually roasted med/dark. Coffee was excellent with a unique taste. Like the fact they have French press method also. Will be back to check out more options. Server very friendly also.

I had higher expectations about this place. I went with a friend because it seemed like a good option for us. First of all, the food is like a mix of Mexican and weird American taste. I asked for a tortilla soup and it tasted like it came from a can. When I asked for a replacement, the waiter initially refused to change it. Second, I asked for a chicken burrito. Guess what? No chicken! And the favor is a NO... Very unauthentic and questionable taste. When I asked for my chicken burrito, she said "the kitchen staff told me, they put chicken on it". I even opened it to demonstrate it had no chicken. Once I explained it, she rolled her eyes on me.Honestly, I was not rude at any moment, and tipped her fairly no matter what because I worked in a restaurant before. Horrible attitude! Guys, if you keep acting like that, you will not last very long. Customer service is key!
