The other day for dinner I got Mama’s Southern Style BBQ II. I ordered their Oxtail platter w/ Double Collard Greens & a side of Baked Mac. I really did not want to like the Oxtails, but they were actually really really good. The Oxtails were extremely tender, had excellent flavor, and the gravy they were in was more on the Smothered Chicken gravy side. Their Collard Greens are phenomenal. Seasoned great and the amount they give you is awesome as well too. The baked Mac on the other hand, they def changed up their recipe over the years and for better, but the last few times I got them they were exceptional! Absolutely love Mama’s. It’s some exceptional SoCo food. If anyone is in the Vauxhall area, would highly recommend Mama’s if you’re looking for some excellent Southern Comfort food! Also try their Fried Chicken Platter. You really can not go wrong with Mama’s.
I Had Oxtail Today For A Sunday Dinner …….it Was Not That Great Like it Usually Be……. The Cornbread Was HORRIBLE!! It Was To Hard Also was Too Dark And Was Not Fresh Like it Normally Be……Could Have Been A Bad Day For You All!!…… Don’t Want To Bash Your Restaurant But The food Usually Be Very Tasty…..…For All The Money I Spend I’m Expecting A GOOD MEAL!!
I have to say I'm disappointed. They used to be amazing, before they moved down the street by nunzios. Quality went down. Food takes forever. Then you get it and its Luke warm or undercooked. Had oxtails 2 weeks ago and they had to be old...Mac is ok, but needs more mac then cheese. Cornbread is not like it used to be. The atmosphere is blah. You walk in and all type of rachet music is playing curse words and derogatory words left and right. Used to be respectful place.
Let me start off by saying everything was delicious. We got the half fried chicken mac & cheese cabbage/collard mix and a chopped BBQ sandwich. Food was on point. My only issue is I tried to call several times prior to going there to order. I didn't want to have to wait almost a hour for my food while sitting in the restaurant and I did because no one answered the phone. I do understand it's not a fast food restaurant and it's very busy. So there should be someone to just take orders and answer the phone so you can get people in and out!!!! Please do something about that. Thank you
Mac and cheese was spicy for some reason charge $14 for a turkey dinner and want to charge $2 for ox tail gravy for it some people dont eat red meat why if they know what they doing and season them right turkey makes it own gravy we went toThe Pit Stop across from Orange Park on Central Ave dinner $10 curry chicken and curry goat is on point
Food was ok, however the customer service was HORRIBLE. When I got there to pay for my food that I ordered online, I asked if they had uptown. The cashier politely replied "yes we do, would you like to order on?" I in turn replied "yes". She explained to me that it would be a wait, no detail of how long so I asked, the cashier asked one of the ladies from the back who also stated there would be a wait. I asked again, "how long,?" "I don't want to wait 30 min". The young lady is the back nastily replied "ain't no uptown gone be no 30 min". Now here's the thing for me, IF YOU WANT CUSTOMERS TO RETURN BE RETURNABLE!
I stopped by with my family and was told If I didn't call there's no food?Rather than saying they close at 7pm or if I didnt call ahead of time that my order would not be ready...or we're closed. SOME SORT OF COURTESY. If communication in a decent way is beyond you then I honestly know you need to work on it....EVERYBODY IS GOING THROUGH SOMETHING EVEN You as a business BE KIND AND INFORM YOUR CUSTOMERS
Great classic Southern fare. The fried chicken is Sunday dinner worthy. The beef ribs tender with delicious gravy. Cabbage, collards so good. The sweet tea is perfect. I’m a Texas boy and it made me less homesick for sure. The staff are friendly and the restaurant is sparkling clean.
A few years ago I stopped in this restaurant. I heard the food was good so I decided to try it. I ordered beef short ribs and chicken. When I got the food, I drove away, I started to eat while I drove. I had a piece of chicken( delicious) then, I reached for the ribs. I noticed that is was pork ribs instead of beef ribs brought the food back. The young man looked in the container and said to me..well we ain't got no more ribs but ilill put the chicken and food in another container. He proceeded to tell me rhat" I can't give you no more chicken cuz you ate off of a piece already " my eyes and mouth was wide open...I wa shocked he even said that...like I was standing in a free food line. Since then, I havent been back. The food was tasty at the time. but to me customer service plays a bigger. small portions but tasty.. i give them one star.
