Had high hopes, reviews were good and was referred by someone to give it a try. Sorry but just not good, had the classic with about 4 toppings . We each had one slice and didn’t even finish .We ended up giving it to a homeless guy in the parking lot who was really thankful . Baffled by the raving reviews honestly . Jacks frozen pizza with your own fresh ingredients beats this all day long.It was the first time, and we are always willing to give a place a second shot, and will give it another go. First impression not much motivation for going again.
I first had Mellow Mushroom in NC and loved it - then came home to NJ to find that they were opening one here! The majority of visits since have been great - the crust is really unique. I like a doughier/chewier crust, so if that's not up your alley, you might not like it. The flavors are always great and the appetizers always hit the spot. There has been a time or two when our order came out wrong or it wasn't up to expectation, but the staff is always personable, and they always make it right in the end.One thing that is great is the tempeh/tofu topping offerings - more and more places are finally offering meat substitutes but Mellow Mushroom has been doing it since they opened and they are typically great with substituting either for meat on the pizzas.I have noticed a smaller craft beer selection lately. I'm pretty sure when they opened, they had a larger selection of revolving taps - now it seems a more generic permanent selection. They've got Lagunitas, Dogfish Head, and some Toms River Brewing, but would like to see some other locals or seasonal revolving selections again.Overall, it's a great place to check out if you haven't been! I feel like it's tough for chains to compete with hometown pizzerias in New Jersey, but Mellow Mushroom brings something a little different, and I'm into it.
The atmosphere was pretty cool. Has a modern chill vibe with the lighting done right to fit the setting. The service was very good considering it was dinner time on a Saturday night. That said, I expected more seats to be full when we got there. As far as the food goes, we got a few specialty pies with a voucher we had for a free specialty pie. Sadly, the pizza was underwhelming even though they had a decent selection with some good ideas for toppings. There was a lack of certain toppings on our 1st pie and was overpriced for what we got. ($28 for a large specialty pie). The pizza was very doughy and the crust was roughly 25% of the pizza. I felt like I overpaid for extra dough. The 2nd pie was better than the first so maybe it was just the particular pie we ordered, but overall, I wasn’t jumping out of my seat for the pizza. I did hear the calzones are good so I will try that again next time. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 3 is because I enjoyed the actual dining experience and the hostess and server were great which is an important component of dining out, in my opinion.
Took advantage of an offer and was so happy! We had the Buffalo Chicken pizza and the Wild in Havana pizza. Both were delicious! Not bad on the price either for specialty pizzas. Each was $22 for a medium. Service was great also. Very attentive. We will definitely be going back. It's a must try.
Arrived before 5pm on a Saturday night. Plenty of seating options...tables, booths, bar...all with no wait! Comfortable and modern interior, and wasn't noisy at that hour. Pleasantly surpried by the depth of the food and alcohol menus. The mushroom soup was delicious, and the Cobb salad was definitely large enough to share with two or more people. Ordered one plain and one holy shiitaki pizza! The plain cheese had mild tomato sauce, not overseasoned, and also, plenty of cheese without having to add extra. There were 2 crust options, classic and thin, we chose thin, which was delicious! Another added bonus was that the toppings went all the way to the edge of the crust. Not a lot of extra dough around the edges, so definitely felt like we were getting our money's worth. The Holy Shiitaki mushroom pizza was absolutely my FAVORITE! With several different types of mushrooms and cheeses, along with super sweet caramelized onions and truffle oil, this pizza was a show-stopper! Will definitely be back!
I love the pizza. Now I know I like the wings too! We tried the shitake mushroom and the special. I can't decide which one was better. Nice crisp crust on both pies.Wings were perfect. I always get sauce on the side in case I don't like it. These were tasty with or without sauce. I chose the Tai Chili sauce- just the right heat to sweet. Our server was courteous and attentive. Very helpful. Definitely a nice place. My only concern is that the music is loud if you are trying to converse, but others might mind.
Went there to meet a couple of friends. First time I was there, had a coupon for a buy one get one pizza. We all had a good time the food was really good. The drinks were good. We sat and talked after we were done with no one bothering us. Made a nice relaxing afternoon.
Amazing pizzas. This is not your grandma's pizza! Gastro celebration when you hit on the one that appeals to your palate. Holy Shitake won me over after one bite. Enjoyed the Great White and the pineapple pizza. Had one in our party of 6 who needed to be gluten free and she raved about the crust on her predominantly veggie pie. Great servers as well. A definite repeat visit on the horizon since many other things on the menu caught my eye.
We enjoyed several unique pizza s and some reasonably priced wine. Service was friendly. We will be back
