Love Tawara both for the quality and the variety of their food Friendly service and wonderful atmosphere do nothing but add to the experience. This is our go to spot for date night (and the mart next door is our go to for quick snacks/lunch).
Ordered miso eggplant appetizer, then two types of udon noodles - both cold with dipping sauce, and hot in soup. Side of veggie tempura.Everything was delicious, obviously made fresh, and of a decent portion size.I'd absolutely return to this place, and recommend it to others. Some nice traditional foods that you can't find other places!
Best shrimp shumai I've ever had. Sushi is always fresh and the miso soup is delicious.I am also a huge fam of their pork buns and sweet potato roll.If you have a larger party they have small private eating areas that are so lovely.This place is killer, highly recommended.
Top quality. We have been loving Tawara since it opened. Therefore, we have enjoyed everything on their menu. What ever you order is superb. I only eat and order Sushi or Sashimi at Tawara. I have total confidence in the quality of the high grade of fish. The steaks are fantastic, as well as all the entrees. Soups, noodles, rice amazing. The staff always greets you with a warm greeting and smile. The Manager is very special and professional. I hope Tawara will be there for many, many more years.
First time at this place and I was very impressed. The ambience is very authentic Japanese including private dining rooms with showing ( sliding outer partitions with lattice work) and tatami mats, if you so desire. The booths are very cozy and private too. The staff is extremely welcoming and attentive. You can see what the chefs are doing because they are not closed off in a kitchen, but are part of the experience.And they have a wide, wide range of food and appetizers. Many many varieties of sushi( which was fantastic) Ramen, Udon, salads, Danburi, Teriyaki, Sukiyaki, and a magnificent Omikasa.The prices are very reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get. You can bring your own wine or whatever.I highly, highly recommend this place.

I love Tawara and have been coming here since the mid 80s when it opened. Now it seems I'm here every time I'm visiting my mom even though there are so many other choices. The food is always good (please experiment with some of the traditional hot Japanese dishes! They are so worth it!). We had the tonkatsu and (beef) sukiyaki -both so good.
I hate to do this to a local spot, but in all honesty, their sushi left a lot to be desired. We got about five different rolls, including special rolls, and they were mostly pretty bland. The fish didn't taste very fresh, either. You're better off going to Nagoya in Mahwah, unless you're looking to merely quell a sushi craving on the cheap.
The apetizers and food we had was very good. Beautiful restaurant. Great service. The sushi wasn't my favorite. Everything else was great.
