Outstanding in every way. Might be the only roof top open eatery in Princeton. Fabulous food, great service, and byob even though they have a wine menu! Try it!

Food looked better than it tasted
This was definitely one of the more disappointing dining options. We walked in and the place had a nice decor. 4 star review on yelp, gotta be pretty good, right? Our server was pleasant, but our food was definitely a disappointment. I ordered the avocado toast and was told that it would fill a dinner plate. For $10 I thought it would be an okay amount. I also asked for a sunny side up egg instead of poached. When we were brought our food, my friendâs sandwich was toasted but cold; the cheese wasnât melted and she had asked for well-done bacon, not soggy. My dinner plate had one slice of toast with a poached egg sitting in the middle. I was so disappointed by the presentation I lost my appetite. But I tried to eat it anyway even though it was quite bland. We ended up requesting that my friendâs sandwich was warmed up and I said I was puzzled by my order bc I thought it came with more - more bread at least. But $10 for one slice of toast with a thin layer of guac and radishes didnât cut it. They gave me another slice of avocado toast for no charge, but they really didnât listen (still came with a poached egg and didnât bother toasting the bread this time). If it were busy, I would understand a little more, but we were 2 of 6 customers. Will not be coming back.
Meals were good- No ambiance - no ambiance music Service was perfect
Beautiful spot. We are outside. The bar serves local wines and quite nice.. Attentive service, although young and O wouldnât depend on them for recommendations. We asked to divide the salad- not sure they understood what that means. I had scallops⦠very good with spinach risotto. She had the salmon with miso glaze. Fairly âstandardâ. With a little staff training this could add to the dinner scene. Iâm the meantime, I think the cafe downstairs is best bet.
After several months, we returned for another delicious dinner at Ficus. Service was great and we had a fine table; but the "food," i.e. the cooking by the chef was disappointing. We ordered the scollop dish, which had 4 small but tasty scollops and a lot of under-cooked rice and crisped kale - the least successful choice of several scollop dishes we have had. Most of it was left uneaten. The second dish chosen was pasta with mushrooms - a favorite, only the chef had included only a small amount of mushrooms, in small bits, so the dish filled our mouths with chewy rounded pieces of pasta. We left most of this dish uneaten too.
I stopped by here with my mom on Father's Day for a light bite. The food was delicious and came out very quickly. Our server was the nicest and most amazing server we ever experienced. For being so young she was so great at her job. We sat at a lovely table out front and had such a nice time. There is also a cute coffee shop that the restaurant owns attached if you don't want to sit down and eat a meal that has pastries, coffee, and drinks. We opted to sit outside on the street level to people watch but they do have a really cute new roof top terrace that our server said they just acquired to give you a nice view from above. We will definitely come back another time! I always say your server can either make or break your experience and she was awesome! I definitely would recommend this place if you are looking for a place to stop and eat lunch or dinner or to grab a snack to go!
Overall, a very positive experience. This was our first experience with Ficus Above. The lunch/brunch menu is more limited than the full dinner menu. Our reservation for 6 was in the formal dining area on the second floor. Our party was promptly seated. The cafe portion is limited to the outside, formal dining is known as "Ficus Above". We were the only party in the restaurant at the time so service was very attentive. The menu consists of mostly sandwiches and breakfast items such as French Toast and scrambled eggs. The menu for brunch/lunch is limited, no specials, but the choices were interesting so there were no complaints. The average entree is $15.00. I ordered the Prosciutto sandwich and it was very good. Everybody enjoyed their meal so I would gladly return and even try the restaurant during dinner hour. Free limited parking in the back. Note that if a guest in your party has mobility problems, the only access is via a staircase.
Somewhat disappointed by the Menu about drink options. BYOB not posted. The Wagyu Beef "cheek" was tasty, and it's mashed potatoes and flame-roasted Brussel Sprouts leaves were a suitable pairing. Perhaps with a glass of red wine it would have been heavenly?? Meanwhile, my wife's "Mushroom Cavatelli" although freshly made, with a pungent and hearty mushroom sauce was unfortunately was much too salty to enjoy. But the service and ambience of the outside upstairs seating was quite enjoyable.
