A nice quiet diner and not that busy, however it is a weekday night and therefore not too many patrons. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good and there was a constant check by the server to see if all was well. The server was pleasant and ready to assist and provide service even when asking for additional sauces. All in all an enjoyable time and good meals served.

We had lunch on s Sunday afternoon (about 1:45) when google maps said it was very busy. None-the-less, we were seated promptly and our order was taken by a friendly waitress. The breakfast menu is separate and we had to ask to see it. My husband had a pastrami & corn beef, which was full of lean meat with steamed vegs, rather than fries (save a few calories) which were not overdone. I had the Reuben and when I asked for light on the Russian she said it is always on the side - smart. It was full of kraut, meat and cheese. Both of us were sated and each took 1/2 our sandwich home! Companions had omelets, which they both finished. One asked for her toast dry but the other didn't so it came with buttered, not on the side - disappointing but not a big deal. The bill for all four us was $58. $6 for 2 large cola, 3% if you use a credit or debit). When we visit the graves again it is a great place to sit and talk (nice booths and not too loud- no background music, which we appreciate.

Very rude owner. Unpleasant experience. He treated guests like dirt. We asked him for a copy of the check and he got very annoyed and ignored our request. Food was Ok, could have been better and less expensive but the owner’s unwelcoming attitude and cursing at his stuff and talking badly about other costumers ruined our experience. Never coming there again.Editing this post to address the response from the business. The price of the food and quality were not as much of the issue as the attitude of the owner. A gentleman behind the cash register ruined our entire experience. I would have never written such a negative review just about the food. Even beautiful Easter decorations are not going to change our bad memories of visiting this place. Thank you. Be safe and healthy.

Well I’m in for a roast again this place is absolutely awful after 20 years of trying to come back and think it was gonna be great I wish I had mistaken by the hinting flavor of Clorox bleach old food and pancake mixed waffle mix as a substitute for what I would not call pancakes. Definitely very disappointed upscale atmosphere is obviously fueled by these prices and terrible food not going to return here.

Quiet place you can hear yourself talking to your friend.friendly establishment.Extremely a clean place.Promptly seated and served very attentive to our needs yes I recommend this highly go check it out.

Giant Spinach Pie and Greek Salad were just amazing along with a Rasberry smoothie. This is probably better than most of the diners on the diner list in Jersey.

Chorizo hash and Sawyers rancheros for breakfast. Honestly, everything here is great!!

I called and even spoke to the manager himself and he still managed to mess it up, the toast was burnt, I had asked for onions & peppers in my home fries and he put it in the eggs, I scrapped it off. Then I had ordered a CHICKEN Cesar salad. It came with no chicken and was charged almost 16$ for basically lettuce. Disappointing. My pit bull didn’t even want it

Got 2 burgers, one for my fiancé and one for myself. His fries were raw and my burger came raw with a stale bun. Very disappointing.

Tom Sawyer Diner was a New Jersey standard with all the usual trimmings and expectations. Our food was at or above diner quality and the service was worth of the reputation of the diner and the standard 20% gratuity. As a near 70 year resident of the diner state, I know what to expect and whether or not I have received what is expected. Tom Sawyer lives up to those expectations for the food and service we received. Since we ordered diner standards from the menu and not specials or items usually gotten from specialty restaurants, I can't speak on those kinds of items. If you're looking for the standard qualities of a true New Jersey diner, you'll get all of them at The Tom Sawyer Diner. We'll be back and recommend it to others. Kudos.
