A staple restaurant with consistent food quality and service. Spanish cuisine - tasty and nice presentation. Service is old-style quality!
Great sangria, shrimp in garlic sauce and service. Paella was fair at best with a lobster that was barely edible. Too may better options around to revisit.
Excellent. Good food and good service! Will be coming back.
Good food, efficient service and welcoming atmosphere. A Newark classic.
Excellent food at the Spanish Tavern, and I will definitely be back.
Very nice, not rushed at all. Garlic shrimp was wonderful.
The free soup was garlic soup and after asking 3 employees if it had pork in it know one would give me an answer. It was served to me with bug chunks of bacon. I stated to them I do not eat pork products and they would make no exception to give me a free soup with no meat. They did offer for me to purchase a gazpacho or a house salad. We ordered an appetizer of shrimp and garlic. It seemed more oil but lacked garlic flavor. My brother ordered chicken on the bone with sherry and garlic. The chicken was cut up so small it was hard to eat. If you picture a chicken thigh cut in 4 pieces. It was just bits of chicken served with precooked potatoes that could have some more flavor. I ordered the veal with mushrooms and Sherry but was over powered with two of the pieces burnt that ruined the flavor. The rice and fried spanish potatoes were nice but could of been served hotter. My brother was still Hungary after his chicken dish that he ordered a spicy shrimp dish that was over powered by hot sauce. The waiter new my brother was served an unacceptable chicken dish but did nothing to assist. It is worth noting the restaurant was only having our table and one other table for six. The waiter was distracted with talking at the bar. I had to waive to get attention to get bread and typical service that was needed.
My wife eat there often. The food is excellent and the staff is excellent . We usually order the twin lobster and it is always delicious.
We went last night for my mother in laws birthday and it was amazing. We got there at 5:30 on a Saturday. It was all amazing, food was delicious, hot, and simply perfect. We were a party of 9 and the service was 100% on point with all our needs and waiters were very nice and friendly. Also made sure we were good and our drink were filled to the top. I have been here before and it never disappoints, food and service is consistent. I recommend Spanish Tavern to all for all occasion or just because. Thank you Spanish Tavern for a amazing night, see you soon!!! P.s. cappuccino's were so good too!! ?
Great food and great service.I think it easily deserves a 4.5 stars.Removing half if star because bread was somehow "old" or definitely not on Spanish or Portuguese standards. Sauces were also good but felt a little bit weirdly too similar. On the good part, great selection of wine and not overly expensive, expect aroubd 30 to 50 usd a bottle.Monkfish was perfectly cooked and prawns were delicious. Safran rice was good but not that special.I would definitely go back to check other plates.Consider around 70 to 80 usd per person with drinks and tips included.
