I was there today for tripe and octopus. Always a great meal cooked and served by a great staff. I drive from Staten Island NY to Newark NJ for their food. Never disappointed..

Only giving this restaurant two stars because of the good food. We were there last night for the Portuguese festival and were looking forward to the excellent performance the restaurant organized as part of the event. At one point the owner of the restaurant came around and was SO RUDE after asking why a bottle of water was $12. I’m surprised he’s able to stay in business with his attitude. Great food and amazing performance. Stay away from the business if you’re looking to support a decent owner.
My family and I used to love to dine at this place . Even visited The owners son restaurant located in Harrison . However my recent experienced with the service and quality of food was by far the worst I ever encountered . I ordered a Porter house steak coked medium for my oldest and they over cooked more to the liking of well done . The taste was even worse . Clearly the steak was old . After bringing our concerns to the owner he became defensive and assuring us all steaks are greasy and not old .In other words calling us his longtime consumer a liar ! In all we never got an apology for the matter nor even credited for the over cooked old steak . Never again will I dine there and I will not be recommending this place to ANYONE !!!!
Ok, this place was not what I expected. The food was amazing and way too much on the plate, I had to take a doggie bag. So worth the price. We got to meet one of the owners (who knows my brother-in-law), who is a great guy with a wonderful personality. I had the fried fish plate and loved it. I saw some of the other plates come out and they were huge. Definitely want to come back. Thank you Sol-Mar!
Excellent spot here in the Ironbound. Great Sangria! Servers and staff were on point. Owner even came over during a busy lunch crowd and checked on us. Highly recommend. Outside sidewalk area is dog friendly.
Always a great experience at this restaurant,service is friendly and efficient and the seafood is awesome. I have visited them for years and what I like the most is the two completely different atmospheres it has, bar area to watch a game and hang out or the nice dining area to visit with your family or your other half.
I worked in Newark for almost 19 years and had never been here before. I had been to just about all the over Portuguese/Seafood places in the area but nobody had ever suggested this place until now. A former-coworker of mine and I met for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. She had been here many times previously and had really enjoyed it. We had the option of sitting outside or inside. It was 85 degrees outside and decided to sit inside. Bad choice. The overhead fans were not on nor was the a/c. Service was slow and we had to wait a while to order. The hostess did not know anything about the menu and advised we should speak to the waiter. We began with an order of the calamari. Bland. No taste. No seasoning other than the marinara sauce on the side. Very generous size portion. We each ordered the grilled sea bass. It came with boiled potatoes, carrots, and broccoli. Bland. No taste. Boiled potatoes? The fish had no seasoning nor did any of the veggies. The veggies might have been boiled as well. Bland. The bread rolls were fresh. Overall, I was very disappointed. I expected food that would have had taste. Everything was bland. The prices were competitive for the area. Service overall was slow. There was a big parking lot across the street that belongs to a strip mall. There were signs that advise of towing if you park there for any other purpose.
My family and I frequently order from SolMar. Today we took our relatives visiting from FL so they could try the paella, among other dishes. We had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional
