Since we arrived near closing there was a shortage of the food selection.. Nonetheless the good was simply delicious.. FYI, If you decide to visit on Sunday, make sure you drop in before the church folks arrive..

My first time there and the people were kind and I love what I bought the were really good I enjoy it so much thank you Valerie

Food is awesome, the people r very polite! ??????‍??‍???

I have been craving soul food for a week, I did some research because I didnt wanna be disappointed but D&J's Food is great! Loved the Yams and mac n cheese. Their smothered chicken is a little different than what I've had but it still tasted great! Craving satisfied will be back for sure.

Caught them right before closing for takeout on Easter Sunday. This was my first time eating here despite riding past the restaurant basically all my life. Blown away by the food, easily some of the best soulfood in Newark. The oxtails and turkey wings were tender and flavorful. The mac and cheese and yams were perfect. The fried chicken was crispy and well seasoned, and the cabbage was decent as well. I’ll absolutely be back to try other dishes as well as their breakfast. Don’t be discouraged by the location or minimal online presence. This is a no-frills spot beats out a lot of the more overhyped/popular soul food restaurants, easily.

They can really throw down!? I wanted to give em 5 ?but they serve hog ??‍♀️

I was in Newark for a freelance gig and wanted to just find a regular joint to get some takeout for, and after a brief search, saw this place and it had good reviews. Well I am glad I went. It doesn't look like much, but I knew that from the photos - I went for the menu and food reviews. They didn't have a couple things but it didn't matter.Smothered chicken, cabbage, potato salad, cornbread. It was all phenomenal. I ate it like a savage at home and I'm pretty sure my dog was judging me while I did. You can taste the home cooking love and soul that goes into this food. It's honest. I can't wait to go back to try the oxtail and smothered pork chop and other sides. Luckily I'm only 30 minutes away.

Staff & customers were friendly. I ordered ox tails. Fall off the bone & plenty of gravy.

This restaurant has been around for at least 30 years. Classic menu that never disappoints. Fried pork chop dinner with potato salad and mac n cheese cooked to perfection. Great customer experience; service is comfortable, familiar and fast.
