Consistently Good Food and convenient location. Nice outdoor patio.
Attended a family event for 60 people. We were seated outside to accommodate our group. The outdoor setting was comfortable with a combination of ceiling and standing fans to keep the air moving. We started with bottled wine, pitchers of sangria and beer. The appetizers included garlic shrimp, grilled chorizo, fried calamari, shrimp pockets and cod croquettes. All delicious, for me this was the best part. Entrees included barbecue chicken with fries, cuttlefish, and grilled codfish which was to salty for my taste. Service was very good and friendly. They do have indoor seating wi and h full bar. They do have a small parking lot with street parking.
Yesterday was my first time there with my family and friends. The waiter Junior was excellent. We were 11 deep and sat outside. The environment was chill, the weather great, service ok point drinks and food also great..
Never again, we ordered coconut shrimp for appetizer. The sauce was so sweet and the shrimps were the smallest I have seen. My son got the salmon stuffed with crabs at $39. It was salmon stuffed with breading and imitation crab meat. His girlfriend got the crab cakes. It was two hockey puck sized made mainly with breading. It was hard to see any crabs and over cooked. It came on a appetizers plate with few chopped romaine lettuce even though it was a dinner plate. I got the grilled red snapper. It looked nice size but when I took the bones off, I had 6 bites of fish. The vegetables were blend and no seasoning. The best part was the fresh fruit that came with the coconut shrimp. It was not worth the price and the food quality was far from being adequate. I filled up on the bread so I can wait for dinner. I was very disappointed. Never again....
My favorite place in Newark I love the food the service and the Tropical Ambient in the outdoor patio is so nicely.
I will never be back here. I grew up on this block and I am accustomed to amazing food and service in Newark and sadly this place just doesn't have it. My steak was asked to be med rare, it came out so well done I could not even cut it. My friends snapper was horrible.. the calamari was cold and rubbery and the garlic shrimp was decent. The servers all had attitudes. And I will never return.

Great Portuguese food without the airfare in an airy quasi tropical setting. Attentive and eager to please staff. Parking lot and street parking limited but well worth the effort. Will be back for sure.
I've been here a few time. SAD to hear the conch is no longer on the menu, but the food overall is always fresh and delightful.
Very nice me, my lady and friends love to dine there. This time i would recommend for the servers to speak a bit more English. I know it's a Portuguese restaurant but still. Overall i love it there. Also the parking is an issue so be alert.
