Love Ray's. We are lucky to have a place like this in Montclair and the community/family atmosphere here is something most places lost long ago. I visit often in the mornings and am a veg so can't comment on the wonderful-looking meaty/BBQ or lunch/dinner menu. We have only been for breakfast and what we love about the place is the excellent friendly quick service, tasty home-cooked food and the fact that it is the only diner in town open before 7am. Honestly, what real diner is closed at 6:30am? In Montclair every other one is closed so if you actually get going in the AM and want a diner meal before school or work, this is your place. They do a robust takeout and coffee business for folks headed to the train at Walnut St station. Perfect spot for a quick meal or takeout on the way to/from the train. Highly recommend! Wonderful food. Great standard breakfast stuff and amazing specials.
One of dearest friend's and I had an awesome breakfast meal at Ray's. The food was delicious and the staff was so friendly. I definitely recommend if you are in the area or even if you're not in the area stop by the food is worth it.?
I'll pop it to five stars when I have a chance to eat more off the menu. Friendly fast service. I had homemade hash and eggs, it was good. Coffee was fine.
I had a lunch at a facility in Montclair and used Ray's Luncheonette. We will definitely be using them again! They did such a wonderful breakfast. It truly was delicious and spectacular. I HIGHLY recommend using Ray's.
What a gem! There is a secret weapon here - someone who truly knows how to make latino food, along with more traditional diner food! Breakfast tacos with a choice of different chorizo, cheeses is one of my favorites. The soups - whatever it is for the day - are always fresh, homemade and delicious. Add in wonderful people, and it is a lovely neighborhood gem.
My husband and I were very pleased with our lunch. It was fresh and delicious. I docked them 1 star because they refused to honor a simple substitution of onion rings for fries. I understand why restaurants have “no substitutions” policies. I’m a chef myself. Sometimes diners’ special requests can get out of hand. But to swap out something that comes out of-most likely- the same fryer basket is a pretty simple request. Hopefully Rays will consider changing that policy in the future.
Great breakfast!! Glad I got there at 10am on a Thursday as by 11am every seat was taken. The staff was friendly and the menu was creative and offers something for all palates. I choose eggs over easy, house made corned beef hash, grits and multigrain toast with coffee. Food was very good and so was the coffee. Looking forward to going back and trying other things on the menu.
The food and service is excellent. One chilly day, they made sure to provide heaters and keep us warm when we chose to eat outside. Their staff is extremely friendly and their food is always delicious. Some of the best french toast ive had. They are almost always full with people, a true testament to the quality of food and service!
I LOVE this place! Great food always; the chicken tortilla soup is DEF, my favorite lol. And of course the staff is wonderful too, super welcoming n friendly.
