When you eat at the bar next to off-duty staff there by choice, you know the vibes are good and the kitchen is killing it. Shrimp Scampi pizza, amazing meatballs, don’t miss the homemade ricotta.
I was excited to try this location! Their Jersey city location has been one of my favorite restaurants for a long time. However, after visiting Montclair yesterday (Friday afternoon) I was very disappointed. First of all, our server although he was very sweet he was not only clueless but missing in action most of the time. Second, our food was nowhere near as good as the JC location. The meatballs weren’t completely cooked and they came out COLD. The pizza was alright and the pasta came out with 3 gnocchi swimming in sauce. I will definitely not be visiting this location again. At least not until they get it together and provide the same quality and service as Jersey City.
So glad they opened a Montclair location closer to home. Different atmosphere from Asbury Park location where there is a huge building with communal seating, party room, and lots of outdoor space.Montclair is smaller and a bit sleeker. We had outdoor seating, which is a few tables on the sidewalk. Food quality and service is the same, which is excellent. Highly recommend. We were celebrating and don't drink alcohol, so the bartender made us off- menu mocktails. Mine was citrus cucumber mint, which was delicious! We are all vegan and I have food allergies, and we ate very well. Many vegan items already in the menu, especially the pizza: vegan cheese available as well as vegan "meat". We ordered the Mark and Julie. Three trees salad can be made vegan by eliminating the prosciutto.
Enjoyed cocktails and a pizza on a Tuesday date. The drinks were quite good. I enjoyed their variation on an Old Fashioned, and the other whisky cocktail was sweeter than I usually go for but was still good. The pizza tasted quite good but the crust wasn’t crispy despite being blackened. Our server was prompt, friendly, and took care of us adeptly.
It was just so disappointing. So bad that I’m not even giving it a 2nd chance. One of the most disorganized restaurants I have ever been to. Went for brunch. Food took 45 minutes to come out. One meal wasn’t brought out until 20 minutes after everyone was finished with their meals. Inquired about the eggs 3 times to no avail. Took 15 minutes to get cup of coffee. Had to flag down server when we needed something. No one ever checked to see how we were doing. Not once!!! As we left the restaurant had to apologize to the guests I brought.
changed their cocktail menu with more options. Skip the three salad the prosciutto was crunchy, meatballs were over salted, ricotta was good but the bread wasn't toasted. The octopus was good.
Great ambience, outstanding and delicious food, good service! Can’t wait to go again and try their Porta Porta! Tried the Fried Calamari and it’s very delicious! It was really busy in a weekday evening at 8:30pm and that is saying something!Definitely will recommend!
We had a wonderful experience at Porta. The waitress sat us with no wait. She asked if this was our first time there, we said ,Yes!. She explained the flow of the service; we ordered drinks and appetizers and pizza. Our food was absolutely delicious, everything was served quickly and hot. The room was friendly , we met a couple form Paris. The person I was dinning with really loved the Big Juicy Meat Balls. I tried them too. They were GOOD and JUICY. homemade taste. The dough for the pizza was SO the BEST, I could have eaten it plain. The pizza my friend ordered , she felt, had too much burn on the crust. I loved mine with a little burn .She told the waitress. She apologized and beautifully exchanged for one without burn on the crust. Gave her a comp drink for her trouble. Our waitress was personable and upbeat This was a beautiful time spent at an awesomely cool dinning spot. See ya soon
Three of us went there on Saturday at 3pm and had a good experience. Restaurant was not crowded, it’s brand new and ambiance was great, I enjoyed their music and the fact that it was not crowded or loud making it easy to catch up with my friends. Pizzas and meatballs were delicious and cocktails were well made ! Service was good: staff attentive and courteous. Parking is a problem but that’s not the restaurant but Bloomfield Avenue problem in Montclair
Beautiful little restaurant with an amazing ambiance, super attentive waiters and delicious food.Highly recommend the pizza, it comes out fresh right in front of you and is to die for. Will definitely be returning to Porta Montclair.
