I wish there was an option to give zero stars. My family and I have been loyal customers to Il Laboratorio over the past few months. We have returned multiple times because we enjoy the gelato and sorbet. The service, however, has not once been pleasurable.Before we visit, I always call in advance to find out the sorbet flavors of the day. Many places with rotating menus post their daily flavors on their website or social media. Il Laboratorio, however, does not. As such, I call in advance to ensure they have a flavor that I am interested in buying, especially since I have a dairy allergy and am limited to their sorbet offerings.I called on 5/21/22 to inquire about flavors. It rang and rang with no answer. I assumed they were busy so I waited a while and called again. A man answered the phone and I asked if he could please tell me the sorbet flavors of the day. He rudely answered that he refused to do so, scoffing that they had 14 flavors and that he was too busy to read them. I stated that I call often and have never had an issue with this request. He stammered that if I wanted to know the flavors I would have to come into the store. Had he asked me to call back in a few minutes once the crowd died down, I would have had no problem doing so. He clearly, however, had no respect for me as a customer.I was so taken aback by the unprofessional and rude tone of their employee. Not only did I not go to the store to find out the flavors, but I do not plan on returning again. I hope management reads this and considers retraining their staff on both in store and over the phone customer service so that they do not lose any more loyal customers.
I love the gelato here! I only wish they didn’t rotate flavors so much because sometimes I have a craving for a specific flavor, and it’s not there. Also, since they have so many flavors and they rotate them so much, the limit on sampling can be frustrating because sometimes I don’t find a flavor I like within the allotted samples, and just have to guess and hope that the one I actually order I will like. That being said, I get it, they’re trying to move the line along.
I ordered a birthday cake for my husband. The cake was amazingly delicious and my husband was really happy with it. I didn’t know they were temporary closed for a short time when I ordered the cake, so the manager delivered it to our house. Great customer service! Thank you.
So nice to see a more easily accessible location for NJ! I tried their dark chocolate cinnamon and pear flavors.Their space is easy to find and also really warm (on a chilly high 30s day December 2021).So many flavors to try for next time. Note they are currently allowing up to 2 flavor samples.
This is the best gelato ever. I especially like the hazelnut and fig flavors. If you go a little late, those flavors are gone already. I am so happy they opened this branch in Montclair, because now I don’t need to go to Manhattan to enjoy this taste. Thanks for being in Montclair.
Definitely a place to go to if you want to taste delicious flavors of ice cream you’ve never even heard of before. I like the fact that theres no food coloring, so its all natural. Also has a great sitting area outside!

Had the fresh mint, beet, and blueberry… all flavors were SO TASTY and fragrant!! Great pricing and generous portions. Beautiful store design as well inside an old bank ? Will definitely be back again to try other flavors like Basil, Chocolate Bourbon, and Black Sesame.
This place is amazing!! So many delicious flavors that it was difficult to settle on a few. The servers were very accommodating and overall friendly. I wish I lived closer to try all the flavors that they offer. I was so excited to get my waffle bowl of 4 flavors with sprinkles and almonds on top that I did not take any pictures. Definitely worth a visit.
The best ice cream I’ve ever had. A warning: any ice cream you eat after this place will be mediocre at best. It’s that good. My favorites are hazelnut, black cherry, and passion fruit.
