First time at CARS Sandwiched & Shakes. Truthfully it was because the Pizza place was closed. I’m not much of a bread or sandwich eater, so my options were limited besides I also can’t fathom putting things like, Mac & cheese bites, chicken fingers or mozzarella sticks on a sandwich. For me, this a places I would go when it’s late and nothing else is available, which was the case here. I ordered the Mac & Cheese bites & an order of chicken fingers (simple). My friend ordered the Big Fat Reptar, it had cheesesteak, Mac & cheese bites, jalapeño, chicken fingers & buffalo ranch sauce; I just can’t eat like that, it’s funny what you can eat when you are in your 20’s, but at this point in my life any sandwich that has the words “big fat” in it is a step away from a heart attack or stroke; so I had to pass on that. The restaurant was small, it’s not a sit down spot, you basically order your food & keep it moving. Honestly for process food it was okay, the Mac & cheese bites were good, but after 1, it was too much for me, however I would order it again. I actually preferred my chicken fingers because they were hot & crunchy, as were the Mac & cheese bites as well. Overall, CARS served the purpose, I was extremely hungry after leaving the Montclair Jazz Festival, they were nearby, fast, opened for business and satisfied my hunger; what more could you ask for?
Sandwich is not what they portray they are, as you can see no meat on this sandwich and the 3 other sandwiches purchased…Will never go there again and don’t recommend
Love the cheesesteak sandwiches. They also have GREAT desserts and shakes. There is a couple of seats at a bar that looks out the window. Other than that, the food is take out. Which is no problem.
Usually pretty good, but for some reason they forgot my sauce and my mozzarella sticks on my Fat Hawk. Really upset since I usually enjoy their food…
I was in the area and Cars was on my to-try list since I no longer have fat sandwiches nearby. Went with the 8" Fat Tony as it's usually my grease trucks go-to. Overall, it's a good sandwich and what I was hoping for. A little heavier on the fries than the other ingredients and the sauce was a bit more herb-y than I prefer, but that's a personal thing.
Mac and cheese bites are always good but literally everything else sucks. Here’s a picture of the Philly cheese steak… what a pathetic amount of meat.
Fat Solomon and the Red Velvet Shake were great! The shakes were very nice creamy and thick! As per the sandwiches would recommend getting extra sauce or adding something more to the sandwich as it was a bit dry.
It’s gone downhill. They got rid of their own delivery and only use DoorDash, which sucks and makes it overpriced. It also closes earlier than advertised, don’t bother going past 11 (which is already bad enough considering they used to be open until 2AM on Fri/Sat). What’s the point of having these absurd (yet delicious) fat sandwiches if you can’t let intoxicated individuals enjoy them late at night? Not to mention, a snail would be faster than most of the people behind the counter and kitchen… never seen slower service in my life. A ton of friends and myself used to get their food late at night all the time but now they close way too early. Other than all that, the sandwiches are solid but I’d only recommend it during/after a night of drinking (or smoking). Definitely not an everyday sandwich
If CARS is able to opt in to Doordash’s Dashpass program so that members save money on orders, it would make the experience of ordering truly five-star. This place has some of the best food in north Jersey PERIOD, and the convenience of ordering makes it all the more enticing. From the quality and flavors of the food to the effort and finesse put into the presentation, CARS is a five-star establishment on its own. But, assuming they are able to opt in to Dashpass for us Doordash users, I’m hesitant to leave five stars confidently until they do. Ordering with Doordash is convenient but is very pricey. I have zero complaints with the food though, wonderful stuff they do over there. Keep it up!
Great food, but incredibly disappointed with their professionalism. Their hours state that they're open until 12 on Friday nights and so I came after work at 11 and they were closed. I drove over 40 minutes to get there. On top of that they didn't even answer their phone calls when I tried to place an order or check if they'd be open. Website won't let you make an online order either.Absolutely great food, I love the place. But I'm sick of making the drive for nothing. This might be the last time I make the effort to eat here.
