Unhygienic place to eat. The server clean the table and didn’t wash hand and served plates and cutlery. I have requested to properly hand wash and change the plates. The lady was so reluctant to do so. Moreover, she did change plates but gave us attitude. No good hospitality. Restroom was not clean and smelly. Gave 2 star as food quality was okay but not going back due to hygiene issues.
Jersey City has got its fair share of Indian restaurants and Swadist has been on my list for a while. We ordered for pick up one Friday evening via their website. We ordered the mango lassi, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, veggie samosa, and cheese naan. Mango lassis were a nice complement to the meal. They look more like Thai iced teas than mango lassis but don't let that fool you. Both the chicken dishes were great. They taste pretty similar to each other, but one is a bit creamier than the other one (my guess is that it's the butter chicken). The veggie samosa was good too, even though I don't like peas. Dipping this in either of the curry sauces was *chef's kiss*. But my favorite was the cheese naan (again dipping this in either sauce), which actually tasted better the next day. When we reheated it, the cheese was so gooey and melty - I wish I had gotten a shot of the cheese pull. All of this food was enough for a second meal, as we ended up only eating half and we were already stuffed. If you don't want leftovers, I would say that two people could definitely just share one dish + one naan, and you'd be good to go.Next time, I'd like to try their Indo-Chinese menu items, which I think is originally why I bookmarked it but I was really craving some tikka masala. May dine in next time so that I can try the food fresh.
If you are looking for some good Delhi standard North Indian food in the area then this place should be on the top of your list. For appetisers, We order the angara paneer which was something different and tasted great. We also ordered the malai soya chaap which took us to the street stalls from old Delhi. Amazing flavour and really soft. For the mains we got the daal makhni and paneer lababdar. The paneer was mildly spiced and not too heavy and the dal was a good makhni dal we had after a long time. They also have rumali rotis on their menu but do check with them if the chef is making them on the particular day or not. It won’t be the authentic rumali that North Indians are used to. It’s more of a large think roti but still tastes good. The naans and rotis were crisp. This place will surely remind you of home and the street style North Indian food.
I went to Swadist in the middle of Nor'easter and we had entire restaurant to ourselves. Food was fresh and well prepared. We never felt rushed to finish our meal at any point. I recommend this restaurant if you are in Jersey city and looking for Indian food. Customer service was decent.
I have ordered from here multiple times. Love the red curry and veg dumplings. But tonight’s order made me smile too! So cute! Everything is piping hot as well. Thanks swadist!!
What an amazing place. Their service, their food, their love... never experienced this beautiful and tasty food anywhere else... Food was Delicious, best, excellent, great...
We were planning to place an Indian catering order, not being sure about the restaurants, we chose a few places and asked for paid sampling options. None of the Indian restaurants were offering samples. We thought of using the buffets to figure it out, but the buffets were closed during the pandemic. We ordered lunch at Swadist to figure it out, it was alright. We called Sumit and he asked us to stop by when he is at the restaurant. His service was exceptional, he provided us everything that we were looking to sample. We had to go back to make the advance and he asked us to sample the dishes that we did not taste but were on our order list. The food arrived right on agreed time and it tasted amazing! Sumit was extremely helpful. The paneer and rasmalai were amazing!
Delicious! We did a take out order and couldn't be happier with our meals. The restaurant is on the main street and easy to find. Street parking is nearby. We will definitely be back.
Tried this place for the first time based on great online reviews. Ordered Raj kachori and Malai kofta for takeout. Raj kachori didn’t even resemble a kachori, it was an empty puri with a side of mixed chutneys and filling. Malai kofta was ok, but it had mustard seeds giving it a daal taste. Not sure what is going on here, but neither item resemble the actual food it’s meant to be.
We arrived later in the evening and ordered chai but the waitress said they ran out. However, they were able to make special chai just for us. Excellent service. The kebab platter, Chinese noodles, saag paneer exceeded my expectations. We visited this restaurant once a week for 3 weeks and will be back shortly.
