Amazing portobello entry, delicious salmon and moscato. Incredible chicken with potatoes. Next time, I will make room for dessert.
This place had the look and feel of an upscale Italian restaurant. We had lunch here on a Tuesday and it was more crowded than expected, but no wait time.We started the lunch with fried calamari. The portion size was huge with plenty of marinara sauce. But the squid itself was chewy (slightly overcooked?). The Halibut entree was moist. The slow roasted lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone tender and very flavorful, definitely the best dish of the meal. However, the veggies (green beans and baby carrots) that came with both entrees were very tough and not edible. Our server was friendly and attentive. But the person serving bread and water poured us bottled water ($7) even though we had told our server earlier that we only wanted tap water.Overall, you got lots of food for a fair price.
Came here on a weekday night and had a great experience. Ordered the Portobello Milanese, lamb shank over risotto (forgot the exact dish name), and ricotta cheesecake. The portobello was excellent but the lamb shank really shone. It was spectacularly tender, juicy, and flavorful, and paired flawlessly with the creamy, rich, but not overpowering risotto. The ricotta cheesecake, however, was sub-par: the fruits were excessively sour and the cheesecake itself was a tad too dry.Service was a little too slow for my liking - maybe because it was a weekday night. There was quite a bit of waiting around, unfortunately.Overall, very solid choice for good Italian food in Jersey City.
The food is amazing, but the guy at the entrance is very rude, we arrived without a reservation (which can even be a problem if the restaurant was really full), he told us that we had to do it, that next time we already knew, and we stayed until the kitchen close and leftover tables inside. So he should learn that as in Italy, because I'm Italian, we serve whoever is there to eat, not whoever has booked and turned ghost
We called last minute, and were very lucky to get a seat. By the time we left it was packed. This restaurant looked gorgeous and felt upscale. I was told by one of the owners that they had recently renovated. The service was very good and the food was just incredible. We went because we were in the mood for pasta, and then we both got ravioli dishes. Both lobster and the porcini ravioli were super tasty and rich, but my favorite was the porcini ravioli. On another note, the calamari was perfectly breaded and fried and the meatballs were so tender and delicious. The ricotta was so damn tasty. Can’t wait to go back!
Beautiful decor. Attentive staff. Delicious food!! Try the Pink Flamingo!!
We just went back for the first time since the pandemic started and we were blown away by the beautiful renovations. They were smart to update the restaurant during this time. The food is still delicious and we loved everything including the little amuse-bush. Staff was attention and host was welcoming. We’ll definitely be back more frequently.
One of the worst dining experiences in recent memory! Called to request a table for 3 adults, 4yr. Old and 9 month old (high chair) . Purposely arriving at around 5:00.. We were given probably the worst table in a corner in the bar just outside the bathrooms! We waited a ridiculously long time for our Server.. Ordered our food willing to overlook seating and slow service as we were enjoying the company of family for the Holidays! My veal arrived, while flavor was ok, it did taste like the sole of a shoe, Very dry.. My dining companions thought there food was “ok”.. Asked for the check and the prices for our entrees was was not at all those that were on the menu!! Seems as the server gave us lunch menus. There was nothing on the menu to indicate it was a lunch menu. Spoke with the guy running the show, asking for the price adjustment.. He was rude, dismissive and pretty much blamed us!!!! Finally sorted things out. However, his attitude was astounding! We dine out frequently and have never had such a terrible experience.. anywhere
We had the most delicious meal last night. The braised short ribs and ravioli were great. Mussels were just the right kind of spice. I suggest the burata salad if its offered. I also suggest the Italian chardonnay for white and the toscana for red wines.
At Porto Leggero you can always expect great hospitality, great food, drinks and wine. The staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful. They have nice bar and plenty of seating indoor and outdoors. Menu is well curated with various options. You can park in the parking deck in the building and get your ticket validated at the restaurant.
