I got raspberry tart for a special occasion, but lots of raspberries were moldy. There were also some dried leaves on the tart. I wonder whether they use fresh berries and wash them thoroughly. Had to throw out almost half of the tart. Very disappointing. I wouldn’t get their fruit tarts. Pastries were okay.
Cute little place for fresh pastries and coffee. If you haven't tried their frozen croissants don't walk, run and buy them! You can buy a dozen little unbaked croissants, get them home and bake them at home whenever you feel like! They taste absolutely divine when they are just out of the oven!!
We loved this bakery. We had caffe latte, chocolate croissant, almond croissant, Swiss and mushroom sandwich and a Turkey sandwich.Everything was tasty! Highly recommend.
The food was great and my wife got a Latte that she quite enjoyed. There's not a huge selection of food, but the things we've had were fresh and tasty. As far as small patisseries go, this one was just fine.
In response to the reply:$8 for a loaf of bread is dumb when we have a neighborhood full of cafes and bakeries every block. Isn’t there a truck dropping off your bread in the morning? BUT, with what said, the workers have been great and nice. And I would love to continue supporting because of them but not when it’s not fair prices to customers.Original:Love the people who work here but $8 for a loaf of bread is a joke. Supplies run short too.
Definitely serving day old croissant and pain au chocolat (chocopain) sometimes. Went twice and the goods were not fresh from the morning. Which is quite disappointing at the price tag...Also there is an additional charge if you don't use regular milk in your drinks... first place I see that does this.Bread is good though
Vegan Croissant options available (only weekends).Being a vegan, I loved their chocolate croissant. They have decent ambiance. Please plan your visit, usually they are out of vegan croissant early.
We searched bakeries with great reviews in Jersey City and Choc O Pain is one of the best ones on the list. The decor is simple, clean and pretty cozy with limited indoor seating which is available currently. It's pretty popular in the neighborhood but most people do take-out orders so it's easy to get a table. They serve various bread, pastries & sandwiches and we had one Almond Croissant & Chocolate Chip Babka which was one of their famous pastries. Both pastries were delicious, especially the Babka, the texture was delicious with multiple layers and the chocolate chips were satisfying. However, their coffee wasn’t our type even though they used one of my favorite beans from La Colombe.
Reply to reply. The first thing I did was email Choc O Pain directly. I never heard from them, thus, a public review.I used to absolutely love this place but they no longer can get an order correct. They mess up my order 100% of the time. I was trying to be mellow about it but I've had it. They never admit their mistake and try to blame you somehow. My last order was actually someone else's and they said they would refund me and never did. Quality has also gone downhill. Very sad. Hopefully they will regain quality. Luckily other bakeries are popping up so I have other options.
You know sometimes how simple things are so ridiculously good that they spoil you for eternity. Choc O Pain is that kind of place, while I can’t vouch for all the items that they sell but I can honestly tell you some of the things that I’ve tried so far are ridiculously good - notably The Almond Croissant, The Chocolate Croissant, Almondines, Macaroons, Slice cakes…the list goes on. My favorite are the Croissants though. Lost count on how many times I’ve had these - they are seriously flawless and good. Place is excellent, small seating area though but French vibes for sure. This is the OG location and the one on Pallisades Ave and Hoboken are bigger.
