Had a takeaway meal of soup, dumplings and noodles as recommended by the staff. It's all rather unsatisfactory and light years away from authentic Shanghai cuisine. It's perhaps toned down to the local palate but none of the three dishes were anything that one would describe as fresh, flavourful or truly spicy. No complaints about the quality of the ingredients but authentic it's not. To be fair to Wu's, I have yet to find anything authentic and tasty within 5 miles of Exit 9. The search continues...
Took out Monday evening. Wonton soup was very good, even better when added Bok Choy to it. Soup dumplings were average, the fillings were very fresh but a little bland. Scallion noodle was good. Very disappointed with the scallion pancakes. They were deep fried and very oily, we had to throw them away (minus 2 stars).Correction, took out Tuesday evening.
Take out! Love this place. We got the vegetable steam buns, pork wontons in a spicy peanut sauce and pork steam juicy buns which is their signature. All I can tell you is that there is no better place in central Jersey to get these. I highly recommend this place.Ps: go easy on the pork steam juicy buns as they are extremely hot when you first get them :).
Amazing soup dumplings. amazing beef and scallion roll. Amazing spicy wontons. Highly recommended. Take out only when I went!
So I have been coming for years and with their transition to all take-out/delivery due to the pandemic, I have to say Shanghai Dumpling has done a great job pivoting to this while keeping up with the great food quality that is provided. I used to come here often and eat-in and would always enjoy the food here. Unfortunately they have repurposed the eating area to be mostly storage and walking space for the staff. You just go up to the window on the door to pickup food. As for food, this place serves some of the BEST Pork & Vegetable Wontons in Spicy Sauce! The ratio of spiciness and the peanut sauce in it is perfect! Other dishes I enjoy are their Pork soup dumplings, Beef Scallion Pancake Wrap, Gold Lava Buns, Spicy Beef Tendon, Spicy Cold Beef, their Noodle Soups, Pan Fried Noodles, and Gold Lava Buns. You can also buy the soup dumplings frozen to steam yourself! What I really like here with their take-out strategy is that they provide the food in higher quality containers. Everything is easily stackable and the soups are even put together in a way that the broth is separate from the noodles, and when you combine everything, you can still use the same bowl! Many places just use the cheaper containers to separate the broth and noodles/meat and you need to use your own bowl when combining them, so this is a nice touch. Finally, they provide good quality chopsticks as I feel you could wash and reuse them if you want!
THE BEST soup dumplings anywhere in the US. Loooong wait times and lines (pre pandemic!!!) and slightly over the average prices.I have tried soup dumplings all over the US and I believe this place has better soup dumplings than even the very famous dumpling houses of NYC. 3 dishes that you don't want to miss are pork soup dumplings, crab meat dumplings and meat and vegetable wontons in spicy source.
This restaurant does not have Dine in available. The juicy pork dumplings were soo good. The golden melting buns were delicious. I wish I bought more. I am definitely coming back.
I first ate here with a friend familiar with Chinese food and ordered just about everything on the menu. It was delicious all around. At peak hours there may be a wait outside, as seating is limited. My housemate from China loved this place, telling me they have authentic dumplings, and after dinner said she felt happy to hear all the different accents from her homeland among the customers. I enjoy everything they serve, including desserts. There are other "authentic" Chinese restaurants in the area, but this place is tops.
One of the worst experience ever. Been to many places in NY, NJ and Philly. Came here on someone’s recommendation. Ordered online and was told that it will take about 35 minutes and it ended taking an hour and a half. Normally waiting this long is usually reserved for occasions like Mother’s Day or holidays. But this was on a regular Sat morning. I can understand if the food was worth waiting for but the experience was horrible. Orders the soup dumpling which did not have any flavor. The fried buns had too much dough, dumpling with peanut sauce flavors did not mix well, Shanghai fried noodles were way too watery with no flavor in sauce, also ordered the dessert and the appearance didn’t look too appealing and the taste was just like it looked. The vegetable buns also lacked flavor. This was our first and last time coming here. Felt like we just threw our money out the door with this experience.
Wow this place was phenomenal. The pork soup dumplings are as good as everyone says. The skin is thin but doesn’t break even after traveling an hour with them. And the pork was perfectly juicy. also ordered salted duck, chicken in wine sauce, sweet soybean milk, and rice cake with preserves cabbage and shredded pork. The salted duck is a must try. The chicken was very authentic and The rice cakes had great texture. I loved everything I had there and would definitely go back for more!
