It’s been awhile since I’ve dined at this restaurant and the soup dumplings are still solid. The dough looked thick, but is actually the right thickness. There were lots of soup in the soup dumplings and this restaurant served it with vinegar with extra thin sliced ginger, perfect compliment! The fish with pickled vegetable noodle soup was just ok. Menu said cod, but it tasted like tilapia, so it was a bit disappointing. The dining room was also stark and not very inviting, the place can definitely use some warmer lights to liven up the ambiance.
I’ve been here three times, food was decent, the first time, the guy which I think was the owner was friendly and courteous, when I was going to pay the old lady was making me signs of ‘no card’ but the owner stepped in and I was able to pay with card (he explained she doesn’t know, ok…). Second time: The same guy was VERY concentrated in his phone, we were standing there waiting for him to notice us, then we just seated in the empty restaurant and it took him a while to notice us ? we should’ve stop going after this but today 3rd time and the waitress ? I know today was busy because the restaurant was full but wow, attitude… When paying and she saw the card on the table: “cash please”, no other explanation no excuse (They just don’t want to accept card. A lot of places do that in Chinatown, even in NJ but then put a big sign saying so).
Food is tasty. Ordered the pork soup dumplings, beef noodle soup, scallion pancake and beef chow fen. Be weary though, this place ONLY ACCEPTS CASH. Good thing we had cash on hand since there were no signs about it nor were we informed prior to ordering.
Delicious, quick and friendly service, quite authentic Shanghainese / Taiwanese food. Will come again
Ordered take out. The pan fried dumplings was completely raw inside.
The stinky tofu did not stink, fake...just fried tofu for 9 bucks.....lol.. don't take credit cards and staff was rude...
Perhaps their heater was out of service but the restaurant was as cold as a refrigerator - it’s mid November and the temperature was 40 degrees out. The lighting was poor and the interior was dark and dank. We started with shrimp dumplings which may have had some minced shrimp but was filled with other unknown seafood that was salty and VERY FISHY! The vegetable spring rolls were served almost immediately which was suspect. They were greasy and filled with a mashed concoction of unknown vegetables. The seafood noodle soup was mostly fish cakes and shrimp. It was the only decent dish at this restaurant. Overall, it was an unpleasant experience and I will never go back to this restaurant. The owners need to look to Shanghai Bun in Matawan to see what quality food is being served. Although their interior is not stellar either, the food compensates for that deficiency.
First and last time. The sesame noodles are completely over cooked and have no flavor. The soup dumplings also flavorless.
This restaurant has THE WORST service woman. We came in, there was nobody in the front. We could see the kitchen in the back e woman looking straight at my group. She didn’t say a word, didn’t come up to ask us to please wait; she continued to ignore is and when a couple came in, she came up to the front and was about to seat him when he stopped her snd said my group was first. She then told us there were no tables and it would be a fifteen minute wait. There was clearly a table which I pointed out, and she ignored me. At this point I, should was done.To the owners of this establishment, I highly recommend you lose this worker who has zero hospitality. In the service industry, you need hospitable workers, or you will close within 6 months . Because your competition next door, #goldenseafood has better service. Her counterpart at Golden Seafood not only made not only did her job, she ran to pitch in wherever it was needed. Unlike the sloth you hired.I can’t say if the food is better because your worker was the rudest nastiest service person I ever encountered. I don’t normally rant about this so you KNOW her attitude was the worst. I do not know her name but she was working OCTOBER 16 at 1:30 pm.It’s very sad you’re losing business not because of the quality of food. You’re losing it because of the quality of your hostess.
Decent service and delicious dishes. Not many employees so if it got a little busy, there was one server trying to help out everyone. But still! Everything got to us in one very yummy piece. The interior is clean but very hot since they didn’t have any air conditioning on. The food was perfect. I mostly recommend the rice boxes because it comes with so much. I tried the Fish filet with bean pepper sauce. It came with the fish, sautéed string beans and cabbage, white rice, and a boiled tea egg. Their soup dumplings look to be freshly made and they’re quite tasty. Their pork and chives buns are also very well made. One hundred percent recommend that you try one or the other. Or both! Last of all, we tried the Shanghai rice cakes. Sautéed with a nice and tame sauce. The rice cakes were nice and bouncy. Now time for my typical COVID comments as of September 2021. Every staff member I saw in there was wearing a mask. They keep the tables evenly distanced and the server is always wearing a mask. Felt like a very safe environment during these times.
