I either have a great experience at this place or one to complain about. In a nut shell, the food is great, but the staff can be infuriating. As a long-time former service industry worker I am extremely understanding and forgiving towards servers and retail workers. I don’t want to come off totally cruel, because not every staff member I’ve encountered at church street was rude, but I’m aware now I have a 50/50 chance of having a terrible experience depending upon who’s working. To put it simply, it’s a group of 6-7 teenagers running a bagel shop. The overwhelming carefree attitude towards customer service and condescending responses towards concerns/inquiries can be infuriating. It sucks, because I’ve been a huge fan of smart world for years before they merged. Incredible coffee and food. Even after they merged, I didn’t have this opinion initially. I guess it just slowly transformed into that type of place. Church street still has great food, don’t get me wrong, but there’s a lot more to think about when reviewing a place as a whole. If you don’t mind the service then it’s really not a problem. Who am I to say for sure, you could end up having a great experience. It’s always a toss up for me. All things considered I will still continue to order from here in spite of the ego hit I expect to endure interacting with the kid behind the counter Bc gd that turkey club is incredible (amongst other menu items).
This place has great sandwiches and generally the staff is friendly but their credit card machine is often “down” or not working, make sure you bring cash if they pull this on you because there’s no ATM. Also this place says they close at 3pm most days but the grill “shuts off” at 2pm (which is just code for we don’t want to stay too long after closing time cleaning the grill so we’re going to close it early) so they actually close at 2pm. Had to go get cash just to come back and find out I couldn’t order anything, super frustrating.
Bagels are fresh and the coffee tastes great. Only thing to work on is the staff taking orders, they get my order wrong and they take a long time to get your order done.
Mouth watering Reuben sandwich, thick and meaty just the way I like it? I wish I took a picture but I ate it so quick. These guys know how to make a Jersey sandwich. Very nice dining area, the hospitality is unmatched.
Not only are the bagels the best in Jersey, the staff is amazing too! They created a community that welcomes everyone! The best part is they merged with smart house coffee to give the best of both worlds for morning breakfast! No more making two stops to get the perfect bagel and morning drink. They have several types of cream cheese, which is fun for me to always try something different. Have your daily favorite or try something new, either way you won’t be disappointed here!Not only are these bagels fresh and fluffy, but they’re rich in flavor. Kids love the Tye dye bagels. Here’s a picture of this mornings breakfast- Taylor ham, egg and cheese (a NJ tradition) and a shore burrito! Make sure to say hi to Frankie, the owner, as he takes pride and joy in making everyone smile!
Today was the 3rd time my order was incorrect. Not sure where the communication issue but it's frustrating. A simple Taylor Ham Cheese on a plain bagel seems pretty straightforward. Have specifically asked for no egg.
I have not one thing bad to say about this place. I legitimately eat here every chance i could. I work on the denville area and have fortunately become a regular here: their Greek chopped with chicken is amazing and the breakfast burritos are delicious! The only problem with this place is once u go u won’t be able to go anywhere else in denville. Also the over Frankie is the MAN! Hope u guys are a staple here in denville! -James

Great atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating areas. A great selection of coffees, teas, smoothies, hot chocolate, and other beverages which you can pair with one of their tasty food items! Staff is awesome!!
