We’ve been visiting family in the area regularly for several years and they kept telling us we should try La Cita and we finally got take out. I’m sorry I didn’t try them sooner. We have been missing out on some good authentic Mexican food. We had been told they can be slow and I see some reviews complaining about the wait but our order was ready for pick up in about 30 minutes. It’s a good bet we will go back again next time we’re in the area.

We were seated at 7:15 and our order was promptly taken. While the food was fine, the wait was ridiculous. Our appetizer (Quac) came out a 1/2 hour later and the main course came out 45 minutes after we were seated!. The restaurant was about half full. With a number of other great (authentic) Mexican restaurants in the area and given the price and wait, it will be quite a while before we go there again.

This place is as authentic as it gets. Small restaurant, but I did not feel cramped. Staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. If you are looking for canned beans, bottled salsa, etc, this is not the place for you. Come here if you want fresh ingredients, carne asada that will melt in your mouth, and tacos that you can’t stop eating.

I don’t know where other reviewers ate but it wasn’t here. Cramped, noisy, 40 minutes to get average tacos and quesadillas from a marginally interested server. The bean on the chips were terrible. I wouldn’t return here on a dare.

I've driven past La Cita more times than I can count but have never looked into eating there. After finally deciding to check it out, I'm just sorry that I didn't go years ago. It's a very small place, so I highly recommend making a reservation. We did and when we walked in, they had a table ready and waiting for us. It's nice to see a restaurant that honors it's reservations and doesn't just treat them like call-ahead seating requests. After you sit down, they bring you some tortilla chips with beans on them and 2 thin salsas, one hotter than the other. This was my one disappointment since I don't like beans. I would have preferred chips with the beans on the side. However, for free, I can't complain too much. We ordered a tamale and empanadas for an appetizer. The tamale had nice size chunks of pork in it. The empanadas aren't on the menu, but were a special the night we were there. They were cheese filled with the lightest empanada dough I've ever had. I hope they're on the specials menu again the next time I'm there! For dinner, we shared 2 dishes. First was the "Fiesta Mexicana," a combo of grilled skirt steak, a chile relleno, and floutas. Every bit of it was delicious. The steak, in particular, tasted like it had been grilled over an open fire. Second was a platter of enchiladas. We got them with the rojas sauce and tried one beef, one chicken and one cheese. They were all quite good, but the cheese is still my favorite as it usually is at any Mexican restaurant. On their website, they advertise that they want you to feel like family. The friendliness of the staff and the authentic Mexican food that tastes home cooked manages to live up to this goal. This will definitely be our go-to local Mexican place from now on!

I've passed by La Cita many times and we finally decided to stop for lunch. OMG it was so food!!! You MUST have the fish tacos and the tequila ice cream!!! The ice cream may be one if the best desserts I've ever had. Very small and quaint.

I was born and raised on the border of Mexico in the great city of El Paso, Texas. I joined the military and was forced away from the border and one of the things that was taken from me was true authentic Mexican food. I have lived in the Northeast now for 10 years since I left back in 2009. With this being said, here is my take on La Cita: This is my new all-time FAVORITE authentic Mexican restaurant in all of the Northeast by far. This restaurant brought me back some good childhood memories with the very first bite I took and that honestly is a tall order since I have been searching high and low for good Mexican food and have been severely let down in the past. My old favorite Mexican restaurant used to be 'Juanitos II' in Howell, NJ along the Jersey Shore, but 'La Cita' took that title in my books in this region. To start, we were given a small plate of chips that had mashed beans and cheese poured over them with two small sides of a salsa verde and another dipping sauce. Both sauces were very good to the taste and had a nice little kick to them. The home made chips were excellent along with the bean/cheese topping placed over the top. I also got a traditional rice drink called "Horchata" which was very tasty and well prepared. I was happy to find a place that can finally make a good Horchata as well since I used to religiously drink this as a kid. We ordered an appetizer called the 'La Cita Sampler', which had two Tostaditas, two Flautas, Nachos Don Goyo, Queso Fondido, a Tamal, Guacamole and Pico de Gallo. I highly recommend if it is your first time coming to this restaurant, start off with the 'La Cita Sampler' to get a true idea of what this food is all about. I fell in love with everything I ate on this plate and enjoyed every last bite of it. For our main course, we split the Chicken Enchiladas with Verde Sauce. The chicken in the enchiladas were small cube cut, seasoned very well and were bursting with flavor wrapped around a nice lightly fried corn tortilla, topped with that beautiful tasting verde sauce. This plate came with a side of rice and beans. The rice was PERFECT, seasoned perfectly and had that light airy feel to them while eating. The only complaint that I have, which I will also offer some constructive criticism with, is that the beans that came on the side plate with the rice. The beans had no flavor whatsoever and had no hints of any salt. When the beans were drizzled over the tortilla chips, they tasted amazing as if they were prepared differently from the pot of beans cooking in the back. As gross as this is going to sound to the normal customer, I recommend playing with and taking the beans from the pot, place them in a lightly oiled pan to fry them, mash them up, add lard or bacon fat, salt to taste and top it off with some cheese after it's plated to give it that true authentic flavor. The service was good that was provided, the seating area is limited being that this is a smaller restaurant. Our waitress was attentive and quickly cleared plates that piled up and quickly provided refills to us. The decor was on point with what I grew up seeing in restaurants right along the border of Mexico and I really enjoyed listening to the music again. I promise that I will be back to eat at La Cita again and I am looking forward to exploring this menu much further. I am looking forward to trying the Chile Rellenos the next time that I come in. Thank you for bringing back my child hood memories of true authentic Mexican food. You all have done a very good job! Side note: Those folks that are turned off by greasy, oily or super cheesy foods, Mexican food probably shouldn't be your choice!! It's not the healthiest of foods out there when prepared. If you don't care about all of that and are looking for true authentic Mexican food... La Cita is the place for you!

Tiny place so consider making reservations, parking can be a challenge on busy Rt. 70. Waitresses in Mexican garb, menu what you would expect and more. After seeing a review of the restaurant on Facebook, we ordered what was featured and were really pleased. Honey and I shared the Cita sampler, a nice mix of appetizers. For the entree, we ordered the “all in one” Molcajete Azteca. Spiced nice, impressive presentation. Definitely on our checklist for authentic Mexican.

This was our first time eating here. The food was very good, fresh and yummy. Our waitress was very pleasent and help me select food for my diet restrictions. Will be going back there again

The outside doesn't look like much, not flashy or pretty. Once you step inside you feel like you are at home and mom is in the back cooking. The food is great! It takes a while for your meal to be prepared which to me looks like its made to order. They have the BEST GUACAMOLE and fresh chips. Not a large portion but worth it. Large portions and great taste. Can't wait to go back.
