Good place for classic New England fried seafood, but man is this place sterile. It's got the food and the menu of a classic New England chippy, but it lacks the charm of one.The walls are bare and neutral where I'd usually expect to see kitschy buoys, lobster traps or some other nautically themed materials or photos on the wall. It felt a little too corporate and sterile to be a chippy.I'll probably eat outside next time in the patio area.
I've been before and eaten at the restaurant. Very busy with wait times, but to be expected. Today I ordered online for curbside pick up (18% tip included on my card, which I'm sure I will never get back) and when it was time to pick up the order it instructs to call the restaurant. No one picked up. No formal phone system, only a default wireless message. After 3 attempts with no one answering I went inside to get the food to avoid any further delay. There was no system or designated area for online order pick ups and when I asked an employee if I could pick up my curbside order as no one had answered the phone after multiple attempts, was rudely told "can't you see we're busy?" I was given the order which was incomplete. The sweet potato fries were severely under cooked, the scallops were fine, but the service is why I won't be back to this location. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.
The second time eating here. We went after 8:00 p.m. so it wasn't very busy. Hubby and I had the seafood platter that we shared. It was $39.00 total but we substituted onion rings for the fries and paid an additional $2.88 and another coleslaw for$.88. Very large portion for two people to share and even was able to bring some home. The food was very good and the kitty ice cream was even better! Would definitely go back again.
They don't buy the fish locally and serve frozen haddock.Nice staff
We made a trip to the Beach Plum in Portsmouth last week. We were in the mood for clam chowder and noticed they have clam chowder with lobster in it!!! It was the best chowder ever!!! And the lobster rolls are just as good:)
Disappointing! I used to LOVE the Beack Plumb. This review is the new location at the mall. I spent over $50 for LUNCH for ONE person. 8oz hot lobster roll...sm onion ring & fountain coke. If the food was good I wouldn't have minded so much but...the lobster was fishy ( old) tasting. Fresh lobster is sweet & tender. This was nasty and I'm super easy to please. I brought it back and the manager did refund me and offered me an alternate meal.I got the clam strips which she charged me full price for, which is okay but you'd think they'd offer at least a discount for serving expired seafood. Not to mention I gave a 20% tip on the original order...she charged me the same tip amount on a meal that was significantly less expensive. The onion rings were way undercooked and the coleslaw was obviously old too and mushy not crunchy like usual...think salad left in the fridge for days. The clam strips were ok but didn't have that fresh taste either...maybe it's because I was in the mood for lobster it didn't taste great. You can tell locals don't come here loke they do the other two locations. If I hadn't been to the other locations I would think all Beach Plums werebad. Avoid this location..and like others have said the staff here is not very friendly either. Total bummer...was really excited to eat here today.
Omg great staff. Had food fast ordered clam plate. So much on plate had to take half home. Same with my friends who got fish and chips.
I love the grilled salmon salad and chowder! Their online ordering option makes dinner so easy. All their locations are convenient bringing seafood closer to home. The Beach Plum's quality and customer service is way better than Petey's!
Loved it here! I used to live in Hampton, NH and never tried going here. Went up to Salem, NH and gave it a try. I highly recommend coming here. Banana frappe and fries were terrific! Great place to bring the kids for ice cream.
Great seafood and ice creams just like in their original beachside location
