Great outdoor bar! Always fun to sit outside and watch the Sox game
Fantastic food and music!
Arrived with friends to see live music. we all ordered our dinners. All but mine came out, the server said he forgot to put mine in. When it came out, everyone was done eating and my dinner wasn't what I asked for. Drinks were good, music was good, the server needs training. The timeliness of the food order was poor and it wasn't busy, many vacant tables outside where we were. Server took one drink off for my inconvenience, (nice gesture) but should've comp'd my dinner as it wasn't even what I wanted.
Fun times! Good food and great service.Stopped by as they are dog-friendly and I had my pupper with me. Chose to do the deck area. I whiffed and picked out three things that Kira (waitress) had to return to tell me that they ran out of it, ha. Finally settled for short rib and gnocchi, with mussels to start.Mussels were good. I love seafood though, so I may be a bit biased. Broth was very garlicky (which is GOOD) but the mussels at the Portsmouth Brewery had more flavor (probably because of the beer broth). It was still very good though. My doggo wasn't as impressed. Also... mussels were pretty small this time of year, or maybe just small in general... I remember saying the same thing to myself at the brewery. No big boyos here.Short rib and gnocchi were also good, pretty flavorful. At about the time I was getting into my meal, the sky decided to sprinkle and then dump on me. I was the only dummy sitting in the open. The staff got me another short rib and gnocchi because they saw how I was getting soaked and how my entree and beer were getting watered down. I thought that was SUPER AWESOME of them to offer. My doggo was pleased with the short rib. #FineDoggoDiningAnd of course the other deets: A bit cramped with outdoor seating, but it's fine when you don't have a fur baby with you constantly trying to turn around and sniff everything. Outdoor bar looks pretty nifty and is protected by an overhang. Gazebo where people can just hang. No people watching because there's a wooden fence that closes you off from the street. Service was great; Kira checked on me almost every few minutes after I told her I needed a bit more time with the menu. (Had to take care of the doggo first.) $60 for mussels, pasta, and beer, with a tip.Definitely will go again. Hopefully they'll have the other choices when I do, ha.
We arrived before the rush, but service was slow. The food was delicious , but slightly overpriced. We eat out a lot so we know what prices currently run and these prices were about 10% higher than average for the food choices. The hummus was clearly made in house and was a more chunky version than a typical hummus, but had great flavor $15. 2 out of 3 enjoyed it. Stuffed mushrooms were delicious and came with 6 for $15. (BTW pricing posted outside did not match pricing inside).Fish and chips plate came with 2 good size pieces of fish and a plate full of fries for $28. Bowl of butternut squash bisque was $7. Grilled haddock with a scoop of risotto topped with 6 asparagus stalks was $32. Sataki (sp?) Chicken had a large scoop of risotto and 6 stalks of asparagus at $28. Has a spicy kick. All of the dishes were very tasty.Of note: there are 3 floors with 3 different restaurants inside which we did not realize when we went inside. See menu picture for each floors restaurant.
I am disappointed in the response (or rather lack of response) of the owners and managers of this restaurant. In spite of multiple attempts via email and messages left with staff at the restaurant, no one has returned my calls or emails. A kitchen issue resulted in an overpayment of our lunches during restaurant week. Bad enough the 45 minute stated wait time was an hour and a half. You hear a lot these days of supporting our restaurants and wait staff - this is an example of a restaurant that obviously does not care about their customers. There are too many good restaurants in the area to ever frequent this one again.
The food was delicious and came out quickly. Our bartender was friendly and kept up an open conversation with multiple customers while still keeping up with drinks and orders. It's smack in the middle of downtown Portsmouth so even when we had a little wait getting into the restaurant we had a great time seeing the historic buildings right there in the surroundings ?
I would highly recommend having lunch or dinner at the Gas Light. I would suggest making a reservation ahead of time or be prepared to wait. We put our name on the list here for a table since we didn't have a reservation and then walked next door to the Portsmouth Brewery for a beer while we waited. It ended up working out. They were short staffed while we were there, so that is why we had to wait for a table, but once we were seated the service was great. The pizza selection here is amazing and unique. Everyone at our table ordered a different pizza and then we each had a slice from every pie. Everything was delicious!
The burgers were okay but nothing special. Chicken tenders were great. They lost me at the pricing. Overpriced for mediocre food. When I got the bill they inspired to write this poor review when I saw they charged me 6 dollars for mayo on a burger, and for honey mustard for the tenders. You don’t charge like that for condiments. I won’t be back.
I've been there three times and all three times were very underwhelming. The atmosphere is all that it has going for it. One time they served raw pizza. They brought it to the table and the entire middle was not cooked: the dough was still pliable. Another time they charged a $10 add on to my salad that equated to three small bites worth of steak that was very salty. Lastly, they never seem to have things that are on the menu.
