Nice serving staff, but this was possibly the WORST Mexican food I have ever had, and I have had a lot. My wife and I visited Portsmouth on a getaway, and the reviews looked good so we figured we'd give it a try. The people who left good food reviews for this restaurant must have never had Mexican food before, or they simply have very low expectations of food quality. We asked for Guacamole, and this God awful avocado dip was brought to the table. Tasted like it was made with frozen avocado using vinegar to hide it's lack of freshness. We sent it back and the waitress sent out the "freshly made Guacamole." This was no better, had a pale color, no taste, and again appeared like it was made from frozen avocado and vinegar. Yuk! We as well sent that back and the very nice waitress took it off our bill. We ordered two cranberry juices which tasted like watered down Hawaiian punch, a chicken quesadilla which had cheap over-salted cheese, and a chicken enchilada which was supposed to have a special "mole" sauce, which turned out to be encrusted tasteless powder on top of it. The entire enchilada tasted and gave the appearance of being something you would have bought at 7-11 and placed in the microwave. Even the refried beans seemed they were re-heated from frozen being soggy, mushy and tasteless. Bottom line, you cannot make quality Mexican food with frozen avocado and substandard budget food products. I hate to be mean here, but hopefully it will help this restaurant to up it's standards and game. My wife did not eat her quesadilla and would not even bring it back to our hotel for the dog.
Had the Steak Colorado Burrito. Great sized portion with the rice and beans. Red sauce was quite mild yet still plenty flavorful. Beans had a nice kick to them. We ate outside; such a casual and relaxing atmosphere.10/10 would recommend! ?
Be careful here!!! Unfortunately they will steal from you if you aren't careful. Our server didn't seem to want to wait on our table and spent most of his time socializing with friends rather than taking our order or filling our drinks. We gave him a tip that was not great but not terrible. He later decided to fraudulently increase the tip by a massive amount apparently thinking we wouldn't notice. It is sad what some people will do to others. Hopefully the management gets back to us with a resolution soon. We are discussing with the local police to see if this is a common occurrence at this restaurant and will update this review once we know more.
Great food and service. Reasonable prices.
great people, owner is personable. nice food and drink.
June 2022 UpdateMuch better experience than my earlier review. Drinks were excellent service was excellent and the waitstaff kept us going with chips and salsa! Nice outdoor seating great vibe. Much better this time so I've updated my rating. Things seem to be improving, although in fairness, just went for drinks and snacks this time, not a meal.
As I am from Los Angeles, Mexican food is a staple. So i found this Mexican food to be just OK. Nothing special. But others who are less decerning might find it more enjoyable. But for the price, you cannot go wrong. The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere and service was attentive.
I could not believe the service. We walk in with 10 people, I understand that is challenging for some restaurants in the area but the host was able to accommodate us at 2 tables near each other outside on the patio which was wonderful. A server brought chips and salsa to our tables but never returned to take any orders. We sat for 30 minutes before I went to ask the host if we had a server because we had no water or anything on the table. No one had been back to the table. The host went to check with someone but after another 10 minutes, my party decided to leave. There were servers greeting new tables as they sat down as we continued to be ignored. I was confused because if we are too big of a party then why were we sat to begin with? Servers walking around us knew we have not been greeted past chips and salsa for over 40 minutes. Before we leave, I ask a server if they noticed we have been sitting there with no service. They did not recognize no-one has been over to the table. I work in a restaurant where people are upset after 5 minutes if they have not been greeted. My party and I were very disappointed as it is part of the servers job to take care of their tables but also recognize the tables of other servers. . After I asked the host if we had a server, nothing was done about it and he sat at the host stand looking at his phone. The server I spoke to before we left felt bad but I was pretty sure the servers were aware and chose to not address the situation. We were kind and patient to wait but this was another level of service I couldn't believe.
Service, drinks and salsa were all good- but the food was very mediocre. Bland and little to no spice or seasoning. I couldn’t even eat the chile relleno, it was super undercooked and had raw flour throughout.
Horrible experience. Food was bad, have had two kids get sick since we are there. My dinner was inedible and at the end when we clearly didn’t even eat 1/3 of what they sent out no one asked us how it was. They just (almost like most people do this) they just threw away all the food no questions asked. Didn’t get everything we ordered, order accuracy would have gotten a D in school for a grade. There was a barrier in terms of communication when asking questions about what comes in the meals. Waiter could have cared less about whether we enjoyed the food, if we needed anything else or if we were even there. Worst dinner ever. Will NEVER go back. Can’t recommend to anyone.
