A real find if you love old diners and griddle cooked burgers. Atmosphere was so like the old days of Happy Days except on a minature scale! Homemade fryers to die for, cheesy burgers and 8 seats to eat on. Loved it!
Parking was very easy and getting in/out with my order was super fast. Got a double cheeseburger with everything and a steak sandwich. Thought I was gonna like the burger more than the steak sandwich but I think I liked the steak sandwich better. Both excellent. Wandered around Portsmouth which is a beautiful city.
My family have been customers for 20 years and after our experience on Tuesday 5/3 we will no longer be coming back. We ordered $50 worth of food and payed with our card. Well we don’t tip on our card we always do cash when we get our food. Well the person working went off to this other customer in there going on about how she is sick and tired of people who order $50 dollars worth of food and don’t tip. How she isn’t working her whole shift because it’s not worth her time so she closing early. We are sitting right there. She just kept going on how she is sick of cheap people and the day shift people who come in and order nothing and don’t bother tipping more then change or a dollar and how sales are down. Well she is the reason sales are down. No one wants to be made to feel like garbage when eating at a restaurant/diner. I have tried to reach out to the owners before doing this review and no response. We left our tip when our food was ready granted it was half the normal amount we would normally tip because of her poor attitude. As we were leaving she said next time bring more money. When we went to eat our burgers were so dry and thin it was hard to chew. Never have we been treated like this here before and if they plan on keeping business they need to fix there customer service. Or shut your doors now.
So happy seeing Gilley's is still around, it was a weekly tradition for my mom to treat me to the Best Dog in the world in the late 60's early 70's. Going up to the window on the trolley was so fascinating for a 6yo. I haven't had 1or a good dog since 1973 when we moved to Okla where when I asked for a hot dog I was so bewildered when they brought a chilly cheese dog instead of a plan 1 with onions mustard and relish.
If you're expecting a ultra fancy burger place this ain't it. But if you want a hole in the wall, local spot with solid food at a fair price. This place is right up your alley. Also they have poutine! ?
I've been going to Gilley's for over 30 years & I took my fiancé there for the first time! We absolutely love Gilley's it's always made to order and always fresh. The food is amazing & so is the customer service! We will continue to go & go eat at Prescot Park.
Forces other restaurants in the area to pay for their employees cancer treatment because the owner is too cheap and terrible to provide health insurance for for an employee that’s been with them for 9 years. I’ll be sure to spit on this disgusting restaurant everytime I walk by it from now on.

Gilley's is a Portsmouth hidden gem. Prices are great. Food is super tasty. Staff is always friendly. Greave dive restaurant.
There's a reason this place has been around this long. Gilley's has the best chili dogs and burgers. The place is always busy and it's nostalgia to be able to get a bite and to eat it right inside the wagon. Gilley's has been feeding all the downtown drunks from the bars with delicious food for a long time. As a kid, I use to go to Gilley's every Friday night during the summer and not once have I ever had a bad meal from there. Great food, Great people, Great history.
