This is our favorite place in Portsmouth New Hampshire. If you like martinis you got to get the signature martini. I love eating upstairs with a brick in the wood, I feel like George Washington's going to walk in any minute and have a beer with us. The service is good the food is good and we love it there. We eat there every time we're in Portsmouth. Best to call for a reservation this place is very popular

It's difficult to give this restaurant anything less than a 5 star rating. The dishes are creative, well prepared, delicious, well portioned and not egregiously priced. What more could you want? Bar was a little slow but we got a seat upstairs near the window and what a view! I hadn't been in that space since the Blue Strawberry closed and the decor hasn't changed much but it doesn't need to. It's definitely a worthy successor to that restaurant. Only downside is an uninspiring dessert menu but with all of Portsmouth outside who cares?

Overall a good experience. The first course (dumplings) were unfortunately entirely burnt on the bottom and on half of the tops. Our Cabernet was amazing and paired so well with our cheese board. The goat and cheddar were amazing! Loved the pickled veggies on the size. Staff was a bit behind, but we were able to sneak in on a busy Saturday night.

Food was pretty good. Although felt very unwelcome. Seems to be one waiter but noticed he was skipping our table. Maybe saw him one time. Not sure why this is highly recommended to visit in Portsmouth.

This is a gem of a restaurant. Consistently delicious, interesting wine selection. Strong contender for the best restaurant in New Hampshire. We cannot wait to return.

I would be tripping over superlatives to describe the ambiance and excellence of the menu on offer here. The meals are creative without being pretentious, which means the ingredients have been thoughfully choreographed and assembled into dishes that truly have a Wow factor. Pretty much everything seems appetizing and tempting. Same with their cocktails. But more unusually their excellent menu is (possibly) even surpassed by the cozy, subtly stunning atmosphere of the space itself. Red brick greets cranberry coloured walls. Harbour views in the distance merge with wood panelled windows and floors, and amber candlelight reflects off of copper-top tables. Is this paradise? If they had a corner to rent out, I'd move in in a flash. On top of all that, the staff are so A1 friendly and helpful, as well as professional and almost preternaturally efficient, this place really seems to be cut from heaven's cloth (at least when we visited in June 2022). Bless this gem!And I didn't even start to go on about the street on which it's located, likely the most charming in a town filled with charming streets.

Fabulous meal, wonderful water views from our table next to the window upstairs, very good service. Everything a visit to an upscale restaurant should be, but rarely is.

Lomo Pork Schnitzel with stewed beans, turnip slaw and rhubarb mostarda The Pork was not tender at all. Difficult to cut with a knife .

What a beautiful restaurant! If you're interested in trying new and interesting foods prepared by an excellent chef, this is the place. The view of the water was beautiful from our upstairs table, the service was outstanding, and the food was absolutely delicious. And of course Ceres Street is so quaint, a lovely area of Portsmouth with art galleries, tugboats, and shopping. Have been wanting to try the Black Trumpet forever and so glad we finally got the chance!

The food was amazing! Great gluten free options. Loved the atmosphere and vibe. But....did I say the food was amazing!
