I’ve been for brunch 3 or 4 times in the last month or two and had very good experiences every time. Today I walked out. We sat at the bar and it was obviously very busy. iIt took about 15 minutes to place our drink order, but we understood considering how hard the bartender was working. After another 20 minutes the bartender asked if we wanted more drinks. We asked if we could put in a food order and you would have thought we asked for the world. The bartender was so rude, told us we were being impatient because she was clearly busy making drinks. We were taken aback and asked if we should order from someone else (I don’t know, maybe she just does drinks?) She doubled down and called us impatient a second time and made it very clear that we were an imposition. I don’t think it was unreasonable to ask to order food at 1130 on a Sunday? We walked out and went to one of the many other places in Dover. I’ve had issues here before because I feel this place is pretentious. I’ve given it many tries because the food and drinks are always good, but this was the last straw. My advice: don’t waste your time here. Sometimes they’re good. Other times they make it clear you are a bother. Go to literally any other place in Dover for a much better, and more reliable experience.
Rude and pretentious we have left 3 times because of rude staff and nose in the air attitude. Not worth it overpriced and the food is weird as hell. They did not care that we were disappointed and did nothing to remedy the situation. If they don’t care how they serve then they don’t care what they serve. Sorry tried 3 times wish it was still the barley pub. Door guy is also about the snotiest and snootiest person I’ve ever met. Overpriced hipster hang with crap attitudes.
My son convinced me to try the deviled eggs, and they were fantastic! Server was efficient and very friendly. Place was busy but worth the wait.
Cocktail menu was great. Truffle fries were delicious. Short rib was tasty. Cobb salad was ok---chicken was a little off. Service was wonderful. We'll be back!
I Highly suggest coming here! I'm celiac and have to watch what I eat or I could get sick but thats not an issue here! They have a small gluten free menu of amazing food!
Going in for sit down service is wonderful, the two times I’ve been the service and food have been great. Tried takeout today through DoorDash—not so much. Food was over cooked and over salted, and the portions are smaller than what you’d get in the normal restaurant for a higher price. If you wanna go, definitely opt for dine in.
Dining in is really good and I love going, but I decided to order to-go, and man do the chefs not care about their to-go orders. I ordered what is usually get when dining in (the brisket) but this brisket is so dry and chewy, it’s unappetizing. My fiancé got the pork and grits and same thing for them, the pork is dry. Plus, the grits are undercooked. It’s disappointing to have a different experience when in person versus to-go. Usually restaurants are either good or bad for both, but Sonny’s is only good if you’re deciding to dine in.
My girlfriend and I ate dinner here I ordered the fish and chips with an old fashion, which the serving size was more than enough, two big pieces of fish perfectly battered. On top of a full plate of handcut fries(the fries were sooo good).. Best fish and chips I've ever had. My girlfriend ordered the steak frites and a Darryl Strawberry for a drink... The steak was so tender and perfectly cooked I would order it in a heartbeat the next time... I also would love her drink, I'm usually not up for a fruit drink but hers was so different with a little spice it was delicious... Also, you would think it would be hard to screw up an old fashion, but many places over think it... Bravo to the bartender 10/10 I found my new spot for my favorite old fashion...
Food was awesome, drinks were great! Definitely going to go there again
I'm obviously in the minority, but those in our party weren't very impressed with the food. Short rib was tender but too dry. The broccoli and the mushrooms were tough. Too much batter on the fish and chips and fries were quite salty. On the plus side, the service was great.
