I had my first Roland’s subs when I was a teen from the little metal Roland’s truck that was parked at Sawyer Mills parking lot. I haven’t lived in Dover for over 30 years, but Roland’s is always a must stop when I’m visiting. Unique and so good Italian sub. I and many I know will miss you! Another Dover icon gone into history.
The sandwiches are always amazing. Love this place. Wish it was open more often
First of all I have never given a negative restaurant review since covid began in February 2020 as I don't think it's fair. This is different because there is only one employee, the owner, making the sandwiches. We have been regular customers for ten years putting up with the quirkiness of this place such as charging an extra twenty cents for mustard on your sandwich, the adjacent Pepsi machine not working for over a year, not being able to buy a beverage, etc. Since the price of food has gone up in recent months portions sizes have gone down. I had a ham and bologna sub today and both meats were razor thin. So much that I could not taste either. It was also apparent the quantity of pickles, tomatoes and onions had been cut back. The sandwich roll was pretty much barely full. Generally speaking people accept price increases as a fact of life. They don't, however, accept smaller quantities while paying the same price.
Rolands is so good. It's all basic ingredients, but somehow is way better than any other place in the area in my opinion.
Today was my third try and could not get a sub as they were out of rolls. The place has a good reputation and I was excited to revisit, it's been a while but the customer in front of me ordered the last roll. One would think that a place open four hours a day would have enough supplies.
Sub roll,very good,fresh ingredients,swift service BUT really overpriced by a couple of dollars. Won't return.

It's the bread...it's the freshness of the veggies and meat..the tang if the oil..it is quite simply the best sub around..
Simple and delicious! I remember coming here as a kid in the 90s and it hasn't changed, still wicked good! Heads up though, they are cash only.
What makes ROLAND subs so good is there fresh homemade sub rolls made every day and their high quality extremely fresh ingredients.
