What is great about here is they cook lobster the right way and they are reasonable with there prices and what they put out for food.

I remember this place as a kid. It was always busy and the gift shop was great, now gone. It was a special treat. The food is still as good as it was, although the menu is much smaller. Classic seafood joint fried boiled and baked with chowder and other offerings. The yawning empty space definitely takes the shine off and makes me remember days coming with my Dad and grandparents when it was packed! It's certainly not what it was but it's the best example of some decent classic New England seafood for a reasonable price I know of in the area. The service was very good and everything was a slice of memories with great people.

what an absolute pleasure visiting! management and staff was very friendly and helped a Midwesterner like myself with all of the fabulous options on the menu. the lobster roll was FRESH, light, and absolutely delicious. I tried some local brews on tap and finished the meal off with a delicious rum & coke.

We are a group that has been to Newick's many times over the years. Some upgrading to the main dining area is noted. The view of the water-front is always great. The food could not have been any better! A review of some other reviews seems that some are very concerned about the facility, and their reviews show that. But I am used to sea-side / water-front places that cater to huge numbers of people sometimes use large rooms with the emphasis on the food and service, and here is where Newick's excels. My lobster stew was the best such food dish that I have ever had! My wife's lobster roll was fantastic.

We sat in the Bar area with a Highlights top table. Our wonderful Celtics Fan waitress/bartender took our order, made positive recomendations on food and drink. We enjoyed Mai Tai, Pilsner beer, a 1.25lb lobster and broiled haddock with lobster for lunch. Great food, Great service and a very enjoyable experience with a happy staff.

first came here in 2016 when we moved from ME to NH. This place used to be on the main road years ago, and now is relegated to a great location on the bay but is no longer visible from Route 16. When we first came here, it was pretty dated. Type of place we'd have gone as a young family in the 60's and been wowed. But the owner is in his 80's and is reluctant to change (we're told he was really nervous about just upgrading to the new bar) and you can tell. But we know a family member and know there have been some renovations, so we decided to check it out. Now in general, this is a cavernous place, old, not imaginatively decorated, with lots of windows and a nice view of the bay. No formal or real outdoor dining; just a bunch of picnic tables for the ice cream bar. Outdated red and white checked table cloths. Menu has lots of fried stuff, as you'd expect. But we'd heard there was a new nice bar, and "taco Tuesday" and a new ice cream bar. So we gave it a shot (we also live within walking distance and are hungry (pardon the pun) for a local place where we can get a beer and something to eat)). Little has changed, which isn't good. The place is still cavernous and unimaginative. However, the bar, which is plopped in the middle of the restaurant, is nice, with plenty of views out the windows. It is not in any way set off from the rest of the place. Good selection of about 15 drafts. NH is prime craftbrew territory so you can't survive on Bud and Bud Light. They had Jack's Abby Lager and Stoneface as well as a half dozen more crafts on tap. I'm not a big fried fish eater (although I like it) so I went for the scampi pizza. It was good, but not great. Fresh, good crust, with tomatoes, olives and shrimp, but it lacked real punch. I make a seafood white pizza which on a bad day would knock this back into the bay. My wife got fish tacos which were very good and for which we'd come back. The fries were good, not outstanding. We both got Caesar salads which were very good. I got the dinner size; she got the side; not sure there was a substantial difference in size. The dressing wasn't classic caesar, but it was good as far as I was concerned and I regard Caesar salads as a measure of a restaurant. If you can't do one, then don't do one. This was basic - lettuce and croutons, no anchovies, not sure if you could get protein on it. But it was large and fresh. Our waitress/bartender Rachel was terrific; knew her stuff and was friendly and just the right amount of "attentive". After dinner, we went to the ice cream bar. It also lacks any vision or decor. It's just a large space and a counter. There was one very pleasant kid behind the counter. Thank God there was no line or he would have been in the weeds from the get go. Just FYI, when we walked in, there were two people there to greet us, so some of the criticisms in recent reviews didn't apply here. Everyone we met was pleasant. What to do, what to do. Look, Newicks, we want you to succeed. Big time. Well, the food was good. But frankly, this place could be an absolutely showcase with a little vision. Does the owner need to step down?! Family coup? Intervention? This place is right on Little Bay, view of the bay, sunsets, near a multimillion dollar new condo complex; a face lift and a bit of vision in the kitchen could really knock it out of the park. Keep the traditional menu for those with fond memories of this place but bring it into 2022. Craft pizzas (with a seafood bent, hell, it can be done); smoked fish, knock 'em dead on portion size, real cutlery instead of plastic (yeah I know....covid...); a deck with real outdoor seating right on the bay, upgrade the wine and craft taps...make it work.

Excellent fresh seafood. Great times in the restaurant. I love the view and charming New England living atmosphere. I've been coming o the restaurant since the seventies. John Dickson

We walked in the the same old dark gloomy entrance, no staff present to seat us, we wait and wait despite being noon lunch hour. Recent Facebook notices about their big 'Renovation' are a complete FARCE!! The place is still nasty and old, greasy faded out plastic tablecloths look ancient, yellow water stained ceiling tiles, old cracked floor tiles, dirty old carpet squares, chipped old wood tables need painting. Beware and read the menu carefully!!!! They charge separately for fries and they charge for coleslaw. Our bill for small lunch size plates was astronomical, The pale fries were all undercooked. The soggy tasteless coleslaw looked like it was soaked in water. No wonder the place was mostly empty. Sad because we came here 25+ years 3 to 4 times a year. We will NEVER return.

The new bar is beautiful and the bartenders working on Sunday were really attentive & nice. The chowder, as always, was so good. Probably the best in the State. Either thick or regular...they are both A+. Fried clam roll & haddock sandwich were really good too. But...management & owners...please...play some music overhead in the bar & dining room. The bar is great but It feels like a library in there!

Haven’t been to Newick’s in a while—with the pandemic—and since Jack Newick died. We decided to go for my birthday lunch. Well first off, they no longer do the birthday discount…AND they eliminated the luncheon menu AND the smaller size meals AND there’s no senior menu! AND they jacked the prices way up! AND the meals no longer come with potato and coleslaw…you have to pay $3 for a potato/fries and $2 for coleslaw! Really?! Then on top of it all, I ordered a “glass” of Chardonnay which came in a small plastic cup and I swear was watered down. I rarely drink so I ALWAYS feel a glass of wine…nothing. All in all, it was beyond disappointing. The only good thing was that the haddock nuggets (the only fish dish I could afford) were fresh. I never intend to go back, which is sad since I have been going there since the 70’s. Now it’s clearly All about the almighty buck & Jack Newick must be rolling in his grave. PS: the bathrooms are still old and gross!!
