This restaurant had nice ambiance and courteous staff. However, this was the worst Ethiopian food I've ever had AND the most expensive. The menu combinations were not good. I have eaten at dozens of Ethiopian restaurants from Seattle to Miami to NYC to San Diego. The cities of Berkekey and Oakland near where I work, have at least 15 Ethiopian restaurants each. Maybe the lack of competition in Reno is an issue. A vegetarian combination plate in expensive California is 15-17. At Zagol--$30. And, 2 of the only 3 veg items are lentils cooked till they are the consistency of gerbers baby food. The meat combination was $50! In high cost California that would be $16-22. The injera and presentation was good. I hate to give a bad review, but it is merited. When I arrived on a Friday at 6:30 and there was only 1 other person, I should have gone with my instincts.

What an amazing place! This was my first time eating Ethiopian food and I sat there wondering where this food has been all my life??!? The service, food and atmosphere was warm and welcoming. ❤️

Delicious, nourishing, filling, and flavorful food. Our kids loved it, too. Shita the owner is kind, we enjoyed hearing her story. What a gem Reno has in Zagol!

Delicious food and a fun eating experience as well. Highly recommend checking out Zagol if you want to try some authentic Ethiopian food.

Wow! What a meal. I recently moved to the area from Los Angeles where I would regularly visit "Little Ethiopia" for the fine cuisine so I figured I'd give Reno's only Ethiopian restaurant a try and boy did Shita the chef deliver. The injera bread was cooked to perfection and when used to scoop the Ye Siga and Ye Beg Tibs it was off the charts. So if you're looking for some authentic, top-notch Ethiopian food in Reno, Zagol is your place.

Absolutely delightful place! Food was very good, even reminding both of us of some of the best home cooked meals we have ever had. Family style eating with a spongy, delicious traditional bread as your utensil. The people who run this place care about what they sell the customer and take excellent care of you while you are there! We are excited to eat here again soon!

We visited the old and new locations and couldn’t enjoy the food more! Best Ethiopian food we’ve had outside of Ethiopia, and it definitely competes with the best we’ve had there. We’ll be back!

This place is delightful. informational menus tell you about Ethiopian culture. the cuisine is excitingly delicious and the coffee is amazing. also they serve a unique chocolate baklava. I hope I get to see this place again.

Bold colors, artistic tapestries, masks, hand-woven pieces and baskets, various pictures depicting people and places unknown, and the sounds and visuals of traditional music and festive, energetic videos in the background all add to the decor and feeling of visiting the chefs own home for a meal prepared just for you. From the kitchen close by the aromas and sounds are both inviting and intoxicating, this heightening the anticipation of your meals arrival. When it does, time-tested and honored ingredients and spices meld together to create magic. Simple, yet complex at the same time. Where else can you scoop up each savory morsel with your original utensil, just like all our ancestors did, then eat the "plate" the meal sits on ?If you haven't had this particular cuisine from Africa, don't hesitate to dig right in, literally. The Meat and Vegetarian Gebeta allows you to sample different dishes if you can't decide on any particular one selection; don't pass on trying the spiced tea as well.

Terrific. Deep deep flavors and texture to match. We had lamb, beef and the greens on the sour fermented sponge Injera. The beef has great complies flavors with a slow growing smoky mild heat. Lamb was wow. And the greens: fresh, bright flavor, purr-fect texture. Do NoT forget her Baklava. It is less honey than Turkish and wonderful savory match with the rich spiced coffee. Get in there with your fingers and let the food take you great exotic dinner.
