The food was fine and used little rice, like others have said. The atmosphere and parking were also fine. But I recently went for a second time with two friends, this time all of us older women, and we were blatantly ignored. We continually had to remind the staff to bring us things we ordered or needed (sake we ordered, place settings, trays with wasabi…) and they never waited on us without us having to get their attention. We were there on the later side and there were 2-3 other tables of younger people present at any one time. They waited on the other tables off and on, but not us, not even after I brought it to their attention. It seemed that sexism and ageism reared their ugly heads. I will never go there again.
Old Reno native back in town and so glad we ate here. I would say my favorite part was the smaller portions of rice that came with every piece. We all know with the AYCE the whole point is to have as much as we can. It's very easy to fill up on rice before you feel satisfied. With their smaller servings I was able to crush many a round.I loved the Saba. We sat at the bar and the servings came fast. Mochi desserts are included along with our miso and other apps. Maria was a great server, always checking to make sure we were ok while catering to 5 or 6 different parties. The chefs has a good rapport behind the bar and one of them was muy guapo w his stud earrings and brown eyes. Def would suggest. Crystal shrimp roll hit the spot for me. That's definitely a Reno specialty. Haven't found it anywhere else. Thanks guys for a great lunch! My brother even used a 2 for 1 coupon he got from eating there so much. Love a good loyalty program.
Service was good. Food was good. Presentation was above the norm. More sushi than rice if anything. We really enjoyed our meal. Having lived in Japan for the better part of 7 years by no means makes us sushi pros but it does make us picky about where we choose to eat sushi. Take that for what it is. Yes this was our first time here but it left an impression. With all the different places to go in Reno for Sushi this one is definitely a must try. Cheers..
Just tried it today and LOVED it, best poke bowl I’ve had! Will be coming back :]Update: 1/11/22, just did a pick up order and it was amazing too! Love this place!2/26/22: came here for a birthday lunch with my fiancè, great as ever!
Sashimi quality is better than Reno area average a good presentation, but Udon with shrimp tempera is not.
Good food. Service was okay (possibly understaffed?). They missed one of the sushi rolls I ordered, and by the time I noticed I was pleasantly full so I didn't make an issue of it (besides, I wanted to try one of the desserts). The AYCE sushi is a great deal if you love sushi!
Excellent! I have tried a handful of sushi restaurants in Reno and this is my absolute favorite! I love the rolls, especially rainbow and Messi, it’s so fresh and delicious. They don’t put too much cream or very heavy cheaper ingredients like a lot of restaurants do. Brand new restaurant l, nice and clean, menu has pictures for all the rolls.
I like the flavors, offered here. They have some unique sushi flavor combinations which I enjoyed. The size of their sushi pieces are tiny, so you’re better off getting all you can eat, depending on how much sushi you like to eat. I tried some sushi maki Himachi (yellowtail) that was chewy, not as tender as it should be. The waitress was friendly but she seemed to have trouble remembering what I ordered. I had to ask twice for lemon in my water and there was no soy sauce at my table so I requested it when I ordered my food, and she didn’t bring it so I had to ask again after she brought my food to the table.I hope they will consider updating access to the restroom. They have an accessible restroom, however, for some reason the pathway to the restroom is blocked by chairs, in a couple places. Currently, it requires some furniture shifting if you need to use their restroom and are wheelchair bound. I could only rate 3 stars, since there are some improvements that could be made.
VEGAN FOLKS: There are a few tasty options here for us. The Tempura Veggie w sweet potato is my favorite but the Green Machine and Forest are quite tasty too. For some reason the last two mentioned only come with five pieces so maybe ask for the full long roll. Also the price is only $23 for lunch which is much more reasonable since I'm literally eating only veggies no fish. I love Hinoki Sushi too but hate paying $33 for veggie rolls! The service here was friendly.
Wow! Such a great place to eat!Umi Sushi was so delicious and fresh. The rolls were so unique and different. Sometimes with sushi restaurants I feel as though all the rolls taste the same, that was not the case at Umi. Each roll had it's own unique flavor, some of the ones we tried were bright, sweet, savory, spicy. We opted for the all you can eat sushi which was $27 per adult and included appetizers, pretty much all the rolls and dessert (which we decided not to get because we were too stuffed). Hot sake was just $7 for a large and $4 for the small. We met Aury and Eddy, two of the owners. Very nice guys who made my fiance feel very special on his birthday. Thank you very much making us an amazing dinner, we will definitely be coming back.John and Ashley
